Default 04-08 Tuner

I am looking into buying a tuner. Does it hurt my truck at all? I have heard it creates hard shifts thus shortening my transmission life?

Well, one of the great things about a good tuner is that you can tune your transmission to either have smoother shifts or firmer shifts. And, apparently, firm shifts are better for your transmission because it's not slipping from gear to gear, but that's a subject with staunch believers on both sides.

Short answer: from what I've experienced, the options available to change with a canned tune (not custom ordered) won't let you change things so much that it'll hurt anything.

The hard shifts are the plates sliding quicker which is reported to reduce friction. I have ran a Edge for over 13 years, always firming up my shifts and never a transmission issue. I put over 150K on my Superduty with the 5.4 and now 30K on this truck with firmed up shifts. No issues.

I love the belt squeal.....but I rarely do that anymore. I finally got tired of hunting down 91 octane so I lowered my timing back to zero and use 87 octane. I sure miss the few extra ponies though.
