Default 04-08 painted Ford ovals

Ok I've scoured the Internet and forum for the best way to paint the 04-08 blue ovals. From what k have found , pre 04 was a two piece you could just pop the blue part out to work on it. Now it's a one piece and seems more difficult to change the color. I don't want to use a cheap decal as that's not my style. Plus a dexal leaves the chrome ring still. I want to paint the ring and letters black with dark sterling grey as the main oval portion. Anyone done this yet? Best to use a dremel to grind everything out or acetone? Anyone use pin striping paint/brush to do it by hand?

I don't know about the pre 04's but my 06 tailgate oval is definitely a 1 piece design. I removed mine, carefully hammered as much of the lettering that I could back down and lightly sanded the rest smooth. I then painted the whole thing black and installed a thin blue line decal.

Did you f-150 tailgate badge not have alignment holes behind them? I didn't think the fender badges did but they do so I'm assuming the tailgate one does too.

The tailgate oval has holes but no pins. The fenders have holes and use pins.

Tailgate:

Yeah I read that write up but in confused bc you said to break apart the blue but in your picture you have two separate pieces still painted black. Did you bust the blue off then buy another to paint and put back on?

The badge to the left of the oval has holes. I just put new emblems on mine. In my how to post, you take all the blue pieces off the chrome main piece. Then you paint the blue and the chrome what ever color you choose. Its not to hard to figure out after you get the emblem.
