I think I might be confusing some of you, so I'll try and clarify. My truck, as well as most other 04-08's, have the perimeter lighting feature when you unlock the truck via the fob or keyless entry pad. However, what I am talking about is different in that you walk up to your truck that is ALREADY unlocked, open any of the 2 or 4 doors, and your PARKING lights, TAIL lights, DOME lights and CARGO lights come on, no headlights. This is a feature in the new body style pickups, like my Old Man's new Platinum, but I haven't seen before on our older body style trucks. I hope that all makes more sense now.

You are going to have to put the relay in

Ok so here is a write up on how to do this.

List of stuff you need:

Standard automotive relay

A delay timer, found this one on ebay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-12V-H3Y-2-Power-On-Time-Relay-Delay-Timer-0-60-Second-DPDT-Base-Socket-NEW-/261320472183?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd7e9 f677

Some 14 gauge wire

Wire terminals

Wire meter

First you need to fine some wires.

You will need to fine a wire that has power then the dome light is on. Take one of the dome lights down and find the wire that has 12v when the light is on but 0v when the light turns off. There will be a 12v all the time wire so that you can turn on the light while driving but you don’t want that wire. Mark the wire and leave hanging.

Next remove the headlight switch and look for pin 10. Check voltage to ground and should be around 12v no matter what position the switch is in.

Fine pin 5 on the head light switch. Check voltage to ground and should be 12v on park and headlight but 0v on off

Unhook the battery

First run a wire from around the headlight switch to the wire you found earlier at the dome light. Splice in to the wire. This wire goes to pin 14 on the delay timer. Plan on sticking the timer behind the headlight switch.

Wire pin 13 on the timer to ground

Fine pin 10 on the headlight switch and splice into the wire. Connect this wire to pin 30 on the relay.

Next run a wire from pin 9 on the delay timer to pin 14 on the delay timer.

Run a wire from pin 1 on the delay timer to pin 86 on the relay.

Run a wire from pin 13 on the delay timer to pin 85 on the relay.

Fine pin 5 on the headlight switch and splice into it. This wire goes to pin 87 on the relay

That’s it just mount the relay and timer behind the headlight switch and put it all back together. I would set the timer to 30 sec or less other wise you may kill you battery if you open you door a lot.

Hookup you battery and test. Parking lights should come on any time the dome lights come on and should shut off after a few sec depending on what you set the delay for.

Hey thanks. I really like working on any thing electric. Lots of guys like to throw money at lifts and big wheels ( I would too if not for my job and money lol ) but most stuff is small that prob no one would see. Like this modd just walking by prob 99% of people would never know some one put any time to make that happen. But hey I know and If your doing it to your truck you do too. And thats what makes it yours.
