Default 04-08 Center Seat Swap Using A 09-14 Floor Console (Column Shift)

If you are thinking of swapping your center seat for a floor console, I just completed this project today on my 2006 STX column shift. Since I could not find a 04-08 console in good condition, I purchased one of the new (takeout) 09-14 console you see on eBay. Grey & Black. Colors matched really well to my 06 interior.

To make this work I took the base of the center seat and, using it as a template, marked & drilled 4, 1/2 holes in the bottom of the console floor. Measure carefully and double check the hole locations with the holes on the Truck floor before drilling. I located the front holes as close to the front corners of the base as I could and still have room for the bolt heads to fit. I used the longer M12 bolts from the rear of the center seat base for the front and bought M12 x 110's, for the rear.

If you already have the center seat console and have wiring for the 12V outlet like I do, swap out the wiring harness from the center seat if necessary. The 09-14 I bought had a different plug-to-truck end. The plug-to-12V outlet was the same.

Remove the front cover of the console to make it easier to access the front bolts. It pops up, not out. I found out that, after tightening the front bolts, the front cover would not snap back on. Turns out that the sides spread out over the hump while I was tightening the bolts down resulting in lowering the console too close to the floor. I solved this by placing a 1-3/8 inch (rough measurement) wood block under the front of the console base and tightened it back down.

This is really so much more comfortable for my arm to rest on. Well worth the effort!

Hope this helps.
