"Raptor Fogs" Install - Phase 1
So I started by fog light build today. I ordered 2 sets of pods from nickpatton_189 about a week ago. I decided I wanted to place the pods inside my stock fog light housing rather than make some brackets as many others have. I started by removing the my old 6K HID's from the truck and then took the 3 10mm bolts out of the housings to remove them. Brought them in the house and set the oven to 175 and baked the housings for 10 minutes each which was plenty of temperature and time to heat the silicone that secures the lens and allowed for easy removal. I haven't decided yet if I will put the lens back on after I finish mounting them so I cut away the old silicone incase. I plan on painting the silver housings black before I permanently mount the pods. The pods that Nick sells fit perfectly in the 04-05 housings. I wanted to use the mounting brackets to secure them to the housings so some modification had to be done so everything would fit. Pretty straight forward modification, simply had to drill new bolt holes in the brackets. As of right now I'm in the dry fitting stage. I'll be drilling 2 holes in each housing for the pod bracket bolts to secure through and nut the back side. I'll be drilling these holes in the top of the housings so the lights "hang" from the top rather than sit on the bottom. Wiring will be run out the existing hole in the back of the housing where the OEM lightbulb used to be. I ordered both flood pattern and spot pattern. The spot pattern is towards the inside while the flood pattern is towards the outside of the housing. The flood pattern will be wired into my OEM foglight switch and the spot pattern lights will be run off of a separate switch. So far its looking like there won't have to be any Dremel type modifications to the housing to fit the lights from Nick, which is what I had originally hoped for. There should be plenty of room for adjustment side to side within the housing but up and down will have to be done with the OEM housing adjustment screws due to the tight fit within the housing. Hopefully I'll be finishing these up in the next few days and I'll get finished pics up with any other steps I had to take.
