You need an exhaust because of it's sound?

I'm not making any assumptions for those that are trying to increase their performance of their trucks at all. If I needed the extra HP or torque for my truck, I would look directly at the intakes and exhaust of any stock engine, That is where their weakest links are.
Go back to my original post. I was simply asking why some people go out to buy an exhaust simply for the reason for making it sound louder as their 1st reason for spending money on an exhaust.
Actually, I just texted Robby Gordon to peruse this thread and let me know what he thinks. I will copy his reply here once I get it.

I'm sure to get a lot of hate replies to this.. but:
I have seen a lot of posts here with people simply wanting to make their trucks sound louder and meaner and I have no idea what the basis is for this?
I have worked for CART, ChampCar and IndyCar teams for a number of years and I also do restorations of muscle cars and older race cars, so I do have a little bit of technical background.
But for the life of me, I can't understand why people that buy a pickup truck, swap out an exhaust for the simple reason of it sounding louder or like it was a muscle car?????
Coming from a racing background, we always wanted to make a car as fast as it could be, and many times it was a result od freeing up the exhaust, less back pressure, and gaining a few horsepower, but the sound to make it louder was never a factor.
I have a 2012 SRT Challenger that I bought a high performance exhaust strictly for the HP increase and the increased sound was a side benefit? of gaining 40hp.
But these are pickup trucks, not sports cars, not muscle cars, and I can't understand why people on this forum are so proud of having a truck that they want to sound like a road racing Mustang?
Please people, give me some reasons why you want your pickup truck to sound like it is ready for road racing instead of their original ideas of hauling crap, pulling trailers, 4 by 4ing, etc.

OWRLY?
What sort of performance are you doing? Racing in what series? Stop light drags?
Maybe that's what my original premise was about, the F150 was not designed as a perfomance/sportscar/racecar/competition vehicle....
My 150 gives me great performance in daily driving, from on ramps, to passing, to being able to hold a 60mph speed with a 24 foot trailer on a hill in the mountains.

My little 3.5L V6 would most likely beat your old engines in HP/TQ across the usable RPM range and do it with much more efficiency to boot (I'm not talking that fake gross horsepower rating either).
Any track you say? How's a desert course sound? I'd be willing to bet that my stock FX4 would kick the crap out of your SRT8.

Having said that another reason I did mine was because I like the looks of a dual exhaust. So shoot me!

I bought my Borla Touring for sound and looks. And I'm very satisfied by both. I wanted just a little more v8 rumble without any drone and that's what I got.

You TRULY are the man!! Hahahahahaaha ha. For me it was to try an gain as much hp as possible without breaking the bank. Got a CAI, exhaust and even wasted my money on a throttle body spacer...then I got a tuner. Lol
But hey, when I hit an on ramp and I hit that gas peddle, just the sound of my V8 rumbling and the Feeling I get, is just as good as 100hp added...
Here's a question for the OP... If a brand new Shelby came racing past you and it was mouse quiet, would you even look at it? Or watching a quarter mile with an electric car doing stupid speeds, instead of the flame throwing, roaring engines. Which is better?
I also agree that the whole straight pipe excessive noise trucks aren't cool, but most of us have the cutback that only roar when you really hit that gas.. AND THAT'S AWESOME!!!
Each their own.
