It's a shame that we as consumers have to make "band-aids" for something that costs so much and should work properly to begin with. Oh well, I'll have to figure something out when I upgrade to a newer F150. Thanks for the info.

I did this over the summer on my 01 and its down 4* at 80-90*. Better than that though it cools off quicker.

I don't think of it as a band aide.

In the spring I'm insulating the roof, doors and panels to see if that keeps temps down longer with less work. I'm also switching to E-fans.

In the summer here it averages 94* so even if it worked great I'd still want more. I acknowledge my greediness.

E-fans just won't cool as effectively as the clutch fan. I tried it. I live in Deep South Texas and I ran hot and the AC did not cool as efficiently. I even chose a fan from a mark whatever they recommend as those are pretty powerful.

What specific fans and controller did you use?

They should be able to cool just as effectively unless something was ordered undersized/bad design on the replacements....then to mention with an e-fan your taking less power away from the engine. Just make sure the alternator can handle the added electrical load from the fan(s).

You see the problem is that the dealer and Ford engineers state this but with no true data that this is correct. The one temp that IS stated in Ford documents is the evap temp. The documents state that the compressor cuts off at 36 and back on at 38. Mine does cut off at 36 but doesn't cut back on until almost 50. This issue IS the reason our A/C sucks *****. A simple reflash of the program that controls this would make ALOT of people very happy. For this reason and this reason alone my current F-150 may be the last Ford I own. The way they treated me and handed my situation was complete BS and not acceptable.

What made matters worse is that rentals Ford gave me while my truck was in the shop got 33-38 vent temps where my truck only sees 48-52.

To echo what Wayne said, they replaced the evap coil and temp probe (all one unit) in my 13, no changes. The dealer using their IDS system, observed the out of range cycle points on mine also, mine were 44-48.

There is another member here who has an IDS system, he took control of his and lowered the temperature manually on the coil. Hence proving our systems are capable, but are being restricted somewhere in programming.

After much discussion on this in another post, see the one about a hack, it was believed that in our 13 model, Ford did this to meet fuel standards.

Good luck, mine will soon be parked for the summer months since the best the ac will do is 44 degrees then cycles upward to 48 or so. What makes this worse is, it can be 100 out and it does this and it can be 82 and do it! SO no the formula as described above is a brain washing of Ford that they tell the dealers to use on un suspecting owners with issues.

Do I understand from reading this that the newer models dont have the problem?

I am very close to doing the hack myself. Have all the parts minus the potentiometer.
