Boss was a mustang that was equipped with a 302, 351 and 428/429. It's like a lariat package. All it is is an upgrade to the base model.

EDIT**Wiki should never be a end all to an argument.

I know about the Boss mustang...who doesn't?

I remember reading about the engineer who created the 6.2. He posted quite a bit and answered questions. The 6.2 was the replacement for the V10. The name for the 6.2 was boss but was never used in marketing. I will have to look for that thread...

"Boss" was the internal project code name for a gas V8 engine that would replace the V10 in the trucks...that engine turned out to be the 6.2

Probably the reason that Boss was never used in marketing the 6.2 was because people would have confused it with the mustang moniker. Using Boss in an internal program name would throw possible corporate espionage off. As far as a competitor thinking they were coming out with a new mustang engine instead of a truck. Now that there is a lot of joint (GM+Ford and others) programs for things like transmissions, there would be engineers from different companies working in the same general area. Just another way to protect their IP.

You people. Some guy must've chromed out his FX4 bumpers too because my buddy swore up and down that you can get a chrome FX4.
