Why Microsoft is Unreliable
I have a 2013 F150 and today, while following the GPS directions, Sync shuts down and restarts taking about 5 minutes... saying something about an update. I was not near home and I had to pull over to wait for it to reboot, cycle through whatever and then reinput put my destination because I was lost.
This was the 2nd time this occurred, the last time was a few months ago, also while using the GPS for directions however then I was able to figure out how to get where I was going with GPS.
Is Microsoft f'ing serious? What kind of company writes software that reboots during use? Perhaps just prompt me and offer to postpone? So sad they do not understand mission critical software.

I know you can set up a network connection through your phone or wifi. Just a thought....in order for it to do this you had to set up a connection for updates to download. If you disconnect this connection maybe it solves the problem. I could be wrong but it makes sense to me.

That wasn't a system update, and SYNC doesn't randomly update by itself.
What you saw was the system message that pops up whenever SYNC is rebooted, for whatever reason. The major problem with SYNC (and it's been noted here a hundred times over) is that the processor that runs the whole OS is not fast enough to keep up with the demands of the different apps. When the system "hangs" there is background code that tells SYNC to reboot, and that is when you see the message that you did.
Just like any other computer, it's a good idea to reboot every so often just to clear cache and reset all your memory. THIS TOOL is what I keep on a USB thumb drive in my truck every day of the week, and any time I think about it, I'll plug in the stick until the message you saw pops up, then get out of my truck and go about my business. Once i've finished whatever it is I drove in my truck to go do, the system has rebooted and is running fresh again.
Here's the FORUM where I found the tool. Post #27 is where the good info starts.

Biggest hit on Ford has been the MFT system. Ford should have it dialed in by now. As stated before I have an issue with MFT radio not working 30% of the time I start up my truck. The touch screen ignores my attempts to turn radio on or change channels. I have to use voice command as a work around to turn on radio. All other functions work great.
