That is why you never let a car cross when traffic is heavy and not all lanes of traffic may be visible to them. I know a guy that did the same thing, letting a car cross on coming traffic after they had been sitting a while. The driver could not see all lanes of cross traffic and got nailed. He subsequently had to lawyer up after both drivers came back at him. Dumb, but it's the sue happy world we live in.

That same thing ALMOST happened to my wife a few years ago ... she was waived out, and she started creeping out, and got about half-way into the next lane over (past the car that waived her out) and some old lady in a huge old caddy t-boned the front end of her Expedition.
Of course, it was/is my wife's fault ... but at least that wreck was not a high-speed collision.
Quite frankly, unless I can see the lane myself, I don't go. If someone waves me out, I'll start, but then I only creep out far enough to see that the next lane is clear. And in high-speed conditions, where something like the above video can happen, I don't even try. I wait until I see it's totally clear, even when it takes what feels like forever to get out across the traffic lanes. Getting t-boned like that scares the crap out of me ... forget the damage to my vehicle, I'm much more worried about the safety of myself and my passengers.

Had to watch it on my phone. That looked like a pretty bad crash. Hopefully everybody is ok.

The guy in the SUV went to the hospital. I don't think he was in critical condition or anything, but he was definitely banged up and wasn't walking. I didn't really get a good impression of his condition though because I was with the other guy.
