noise under the hood

Default noise under the hood

started getting what sounds like a high speed fan noise when i am idling...intermittent, of course...any ideas? i'm not a mechanic...

2013 w/ 63k 8 cyl

Sound like the radiator fan running. Sounds normal to me.

why would it suddenly start doing this? it's not summer here, obviously. in fact it started on an afternoon at 50 degrees...kinda freaks me out, lol...

Did you just get done towing? How about pulling off the interstate? Running your AC?

Lots of reasons it could be doing it.

AC could have a restriction causing high side pressures to spike and then the fan kicks on super mode for like 3-5 seconds bringing pressures back down.

If your climate control is set on auto, it will blow air through all vents to reach your temp setting, including defrost which turns the fan on.

i am doing nothing abnormal or different from how i've been driving for 63K. it just started doing this in the last few days.
also had a scorched valve at about 58K, which was under warranty...
already looking at going back to dodge ram...

I wonder if they did any updates to your software when it was in for warranty work,

You could also check the fan blades to make sure none of them are damaged

When did they do the work?

Most trucks have experienced a louder fan noise after having their truck in for service. The dealership updates the truck and changes the fans run time/speed.
