Default k&n or roush

Looking to get and an intake for my 2011 5.0 v8. Torn between k&n 63-2581 and the Roush intake. Thoughts or other suggestions?

For looks? Either one.

For power? Neither one.

I like the motorcraft one. Looks OEM and its actually a cold air intake too that flows more than the engine is even capable of using! As MGD said the only use of a CAI on our 5.0's is appearance, so pick whichever one looks best in your opinion.

Well in that case. I may pass on the intake.

If you ever go supercharged or w/e then by all means go for it, you'll definitely be able to benefit from one then, but I recommend skipping it altogether and putting that money towards some other nice toy, like a leveling kit, etc.

I assume your referring to the K&N replacement filter? I can't imagine it would hurt if it were dry, I can't speak for oiled filters because I have no experience with them. But OEM air filters do the job just fine, you just need to replace them every 30k miles. Idk the K&N's price but I can't imagine spending ~$12 every 30k miles and spending 30 seconds changing a filter being too demanding. However, your money your rig.

Thumbs down

Mach18604 - What about a k&n drop in...? Would that be worth it ??
It's your $$$$$ ...
  • increases the likelihood of oil contaminating the MAF sensor. *Over time even minute oil contamination decreases power and MPG. When it's REALLY EXCESSIVE it will be intuitively obvious.
    .
  • any increase in CFM comes at the expense of filtration.
    .
  • cleaning is a PITA. *And, Yes, I've done it on MAS equipped vehicles.
    .
  • Motorcraft, OEM air filters ...
    • meets|exceeds engine air intake CFM requirements.
    • good for 30,000+ miles (depending upon conditions).
    • ABSOLUTELY NO possibility of MAF sensor oil contamination.
    • dispose and replace maintenance.
