What Mods Should I Choose?
#11
I'm also sorry about your loss. First, I'd recommend getting back on track, as it is a heavy blow to lose a parent.
As for mods, it depends where you live. In the city, I'd recommend one or more of the following:
Factory alarm. Unless you want a Viper with two-way remote and all the trimmings, the Ford factory one with remote start should do you well.
Locking lug nuts. The ones from the dealership are decent, you can get better security from Gorilla Auto. I recommend this because the crackheads tend to go to the Toyota down the street for something to rip off if they see they have to fight for what they want to steal. Also, there are the hippie types who get their jollies loosening lug nuts on pickups/SUVs, saying they are doing it for the "environment". Driving on one lugnut warping the rotors is better than having wheels fall off.
Door/side guards. This is so some schmoe at the local grocery store doesn't create dents in your vehicle by letting a grocery cart bounce into it. My older F-150 had these and it kept the vehicle dent free for a long time. My new truck lasted a week and a half before attracting cart dents.
For people who are fortunate enough to live in the country where two-legged vermin are less common:
Hit Tractor Supply and get a toolchest. If rust isn't an issue, get a steel one, if it is, aluminum, although aluminum isn't as sturdy, nor does it resist a crowbar as well as the steel models.
Bedliner. I got an "official" Ford-branded drop-in, which works for me. You also cannot go wrong by going to a Line-X shop for a spray-on bedliner.
Trailer brake controller. If you do tow stuff, having a Ford TBC will make life nicer.
Performance mods... maybe a chip and tunes, but I'd check with someone who knows better to find something in your budget.
One piece of advice... be careful with too much in the way of lifting... with regards to insurance companies, anyone under 25 has two strikes against them, and lifting might cause them to drop coverage on the truck.

Wow, thank you for all that, I am fortunate enough to live in a pretty safe neighborhood, so Im not too worried about the alarm, and stuff like that. And considering Im only in High School, I dont tow more than my friends and I to lunch. lol. But I like the idea of door guards, and I totally forgot about a bedliner. It has the factory bed extender, but it looks a bit tacky without a bedliner, So I'm thinking I'll go with that. thank you

To all other posters, thank you for your condolences.
Im thinking I will go with a bedliner for now, and then maybe ask some local places about exhaust systems.
As for a lift, which many of you suggested, I have been considering like a 3 inch spacer (I dont have the will-power) to spend so much money on a suspension lift) And a little bigger tires, and whatever wheels look good when I go pick them out. The only thing is, I want to do it all in one step, So im going to need a little more banked before I commit to that.
Thank you all very much, you've been super helpful

Earlier in 2010, I lost my dad, and he left me his 2010 F150 crew cab Lariat. But Im only 17, and I only know kinda the basics of what goes on under the hood. Anyways, I have about $1,000 to spend, and I wanted to know what i should put on the truck? I'm more worried about looks (and sound) then performance... I know, kinda superficial, but I'm just being honest. I was thinking, to start, an exhaust system, but do you guys have any recommendations? anything will help. Thanks a lot for helping if you can

Im so sorry for your loss. For an exhaust i would put on some duel flowmaster 40's. they might be called super 40's. I have 1 super 40 muffler and the duel exhaust and it already sounds awsome. So if you want to save alittle $ then go with 1 muffler. But if you want to put just a little more into it. Go with 2. Either affordable cost, for an amazing sound.

Sorry for your loss bro. Hang in there time heals a lot of wounds. As for your truck. Dad had great taste. I would level it first and then save some more and put some 305's on there.
