What bad things have you heard about the iPikes? The cost difference for the iPikes from Discount Tire Direct vs Blizzak's from TireRack is pretty significant. Plus once the Blizzak's hit 45% tread life they basically become an all season.

I'm out of the autocross game now, but talked with some friends last year and they had 3 tire failures on 6 cars (24 tires total) last season. Prior to that they only saw an average of one failure per seaon. The failures were two sidewall bulges and one tread separation. Keep in mind these are tires run on cars that are raced and then driven home on mountain access roads (FSR/logging roads) by drivers that drive fairly aggressively. One of them made the comment that they thought the manufacturer did change.

I'm only running Blizzaks as I found a used set that are 95% tread already on aluminum wheels with sensors for less than I can buy the rubber for!
Otherwise, I would be on iPikes. They are a pretty darn good tire for the value. When iPikes hit 30%, they are only as good as a decent all-season.

Well that makes me feel better. I won't be racing my truck and I'll bet the IPike RW11 for trucks might be different than what your buddies used on the cars too. The price is too good to pass up.

I did just shoot a buddy a text to see what model they are using, but yes I agree it has to be a different model. I think they were W409's if I remember correctly.

I'm getting 275/55R20 IPike RW11's on my truck tomorrow.

I've been told that I can run them year round - anyone else do that?

$500 cheaper than getting a set of GoodYear Adventures.

PS: My truck is paid off! Last payment was today! Oh what a feeling....what a rush!

I ordered the iPike's yesterday and it looks like they shipped today so I should have them Monday, I hope. Couldn't beat the price after rebates from Discount Tire Direct. I wouldn't run them in the summer if I were you, the same soft rubber compound that makes them more effective in the cold will make them less effective in the hot. They will also wear much faster in the warm months. I would only run them on the summer if you were on the final 30% of the tire's tread wear, at that point the rubber compound is about the same as an all-season tire.

I use 20" Pirelli's in the summer but in the winter I use 17" BFG Winter Slalom's on dedicated rims and after more the 50 years of driving in Ontario winters I can honestly say these are the best winter tires I've ever used.

The're quiet, smooth riding and after 4 winters still have plenty of tread left and I'm probably going to put them on this weekend for winter #5

Now there's a tire I've never seen a review for. When you say 4 winters, approximately how many miles is that?

I have run Blizzacks and Pirelli scorpions. I personally think they perform about the same and unless I drove them back to back I would not know the difference. What I can say is the Pirelli's were a hell of a lot quieter than the Blizzacks.

I had 4 seasons in the Pirelli's and just starting the 2nd season on the Blizzacks so I cannot comment on the wear
