Default VMP vs Whipple supercharger

So my experience with ford superchargers is limited to the Easton M112 and 2.3 whipple superchargers mostly on the lightning and my friends 03 terminator. From what I understand the 5.0 it seems they respond extreamly well to boost maybe even more so then the LS based GM motors. So between the VMP and whipple is there a clear advantage between the two. It seems like the VMP is basicly a upgraded roush unit and of course the 2.9L whipple is massive compared to the 1.9 and 2.3 blowers for the 4.6 4 valve motors. Any feed back and results would be great.

I guess I can kinda chime in here....

I'm running the stage 2 2.3 Roush which the only deference between mine and the VMP is the inlet design, which is minimal. I'm running a 75mm pulley @ 12 psi on my 5.0 with an upgraded HE, larger '13-14 GT500 injectors, Roush CAI, VMP BAP, full 3" exhaust, and my truck FLAT OUT moves. It is simply stupid to be such a big truck and be this fast. It will seriously bark my 33x12.5R20s MTXs going into 3rd at 75 mph WOT. There is no doubt in my mind the truck is VERY deep into the 11s and will see 10s without a doubt in my mind when I finish a few more bolt-ons. It is simply stupid how responsive it is to boost and how quickly the TVS builds it compared to my old 3.4 Whipple Lightning, it is instant. I've always loved and owned Whipples and not knocking them at all but honestly I don't see where any larger SC is needed for a 5.0 displacement. It's almost perfect how well the 2.3 TVS and 5.0 works together. Not to mention I very rarely have a 3 figure IAT2. It's very efficient. I don't think you can go wrong with either but I would go with VMP. Justin and Travis are good to deal with, stand behind their products, easy to reach, and can tune the hell out of it as well. It's the total package and straight up works

And as far as more responsive to boost than LS's.... that's a pretty hard debate because my 5.3 with a T4 S475 takes to it very, very well. It's really a toss up. Both engines kick ***.

I agree with the LS motors loving boost. My TA ran very well with a stock bottom end LS1 and two different turbo set ups. I did eventually cross over to a juiced LQ9 408 that was more track then street.

Any way back on topic. The larger heat exchanger up front is definitely the way to go. Have you had your set up on the dyno or ran it at the track yet? Also what gears are you running?

Yeah the larger HE really is the ticket, mine is from Roush as well and is huge. Having a lot of fluid capacity and large cooling area makes it where it never gets heat soaked. I'll never run an ice box like I had to in the Lightning days. And no, I haven't gotten any numbers or times on the truck yet. I've done all the mods within the last month and still getting the tune completely dialed in.

The closest 1/4 mile track 2.5 hours away and it's NHRA. And they enforce it as well. It would be a one pass, get kicked off. And I'm not sure how strict Memphis is. The track I usually go to is only 1000ft and is still a couple hours drive but no strict regulations. I plan on going shortly just to get some base times on it to compare to my previous vehicles. At least that way I'll have 1/8th mile times to semi predict what it will do in the 1/4. And of course no dyno either... my town has a population of 2k and one red light so we're pretty limited in this area for proper test and tuning. Street racing is pretty much the name of the game for all of mid/southern Arkansas... which my F150 is my DD, work truck, and toy hauler. Silverado is the race truck. It's just a perk the Ford is faster than hell and still completely functional as a stock truck

your truck must be making about 750 HP to the wheels to get "deep into the 11's".

850HP to the tires will get a 5800 lb truck to upper 10's.

This is NOT with a 33x12.50 though.

That sounds a little far fetched to me Neck. I may be dead azz wrong and it wouldn't be the first time or last time but 750rwhp for mid-low 11s sounds like overkill even at 5k + Then again, im not exactly sure where I'm sitting at HP wise. I know the GTs are really putting it down at 10-12 psi but then again that's apples and oranges and they have a higher CR than us as well. Which this big pig isn't any heavier than my old Kenne Bell HD which ran 11s consistantly with less power. And stock, tuned Eco's are running mid 12s which is crazy. We'll just have to see. I've owned a lot of really fast vehicles, more cars than trucks but I think she has it in her... and if not, time to spend a little more $$$

If I remember VMPs truck is a little over 600hp and they are well into the low 11s if I am not mistaken and that's with a modest gear ratio. I would think 700+ at the wheels could definitely touch 10s but I could be wrong.

That's what I'm thinking as well. And I can't remember what their truck is running. Travis mentioned it to me shortly after discussing 4hi launches... which I'm still on the fences about. Seems like a lot of stress of the front end components but all the cool kids are doing it

You may wanna hit up SVTP for more incite. I've been a 10 year member there and they have all the coyote info and advice you'll ever want. Really love this forum but it doesn't seem to have too much performance or tech info.
