Filled up at a local Murphy Express today. $110 worth of premium. Five minutes later my truck starts running a little rough which quickly turns to misfiring and a check engine light. I drove straight to the dealer. $560 to drop the tank, drain the fuel, and clean out the fuel system. Mechanic gave me a sample of the fuel he pulled out of he tank. It had about 15-20% water. That's ridiculous. Have already started the claims process to get reimbursed for the bad gas and repairs. Won't be getting gas there again.

Wow! Premium fuel? WTF?! I'd be extremely upset. Small claims with that station for sure!

Not that this was what happened in your case, but, I had the opportunity to do a ride along many years ago with a Mobil fuel delivery truck. The biggest thing I remember the guy telling me was to NEVER fill up with fuel if there is a delivery being made. When the truck fills the underground tank, it stirs up any water that had settled to the bottom of the tank. If you are pumping while the tank is being filled, you risk getting water mixed in with your fuel.

That is definitely a problem with the tankage there at the station. Gasoline tanks get dewatered multiple times before shipment and before it reaches the consumer. Also, in no batch of gasoline should there be 15-20% of water. At most you get a few inches on the bottom of a 60'+ tank.

I personally saw a tanker truck 2 weeks ago at the local murphy oil filling up.
What really set me off though was seeing the guy use the traffic cones they put around the truck as a funnel to pour excess fuel from the hose into the tank. Before he started filling it. I thought I had it videoed on my dash cam, but the cheap chinese crap was locked up.

This is why I buy only top tier gas. Never the cheap crap.

well ya, but no matter where you go you expect to get that. Granted, LA may have issues...screw it, just blame it on the hurricane

bcb97, I 100% agree. That's why I only run Chevron. Great gas, and never had a problem.

X2 only good place to get fuel around here.
