And my front left speaker is shorting out again. Looks like I'll be splicing/soldering into the factory wiring and doing away with the harnesses. How hard is it to make door seals that don't allow water to come in?

Try cutting the Female Connectors off the Metra Harness and Soldering them to the speaker terminals 1st!(Before Cutting Factory Wires!) This Worked for me, no troubles in 6 months... I've done many truck washes since, see if that fixes it for yah!

It's not uncommon to have moisture and water in the door but there should be drain holes in the bottom. Check those to confirm they're not plugged with dirt. With that being said I had the same problem with my LF and LR speaker cutting out occasionally.

The aftermarket adapters are largely junk, and i'm always having issues with them so I used some NoAlox to prevent oxidation. It works pretty well but I still think the connectors are a problem so I will probably end up soldering the connections. I use that NoAlox stuff on all outdoor electrical connections. Great stuff.

I cut off the harnesses then soldered & used heat-shrink on all 4 speakers last night. When I pulled apart the left front harness, I could see water sitting in there. Hopefully this solves the problem.

The doors are not sealed, water does seep past the weatherseals......that's why doors have drain holes.

I understand they have drain holes. I've had 6 vehicles that I've replaced door speakers in and I've never had a problem of moisture getting in the connector and shorting out the speakers (multiple times). I simply started this thread in order to help others that may be dealing with their speakers cutting in & out.
