Default Tsb 13-1-10

Hey guys, just hoping some of you all can shed some light for me here. My transmission works flawlessly except on cold starts it has a rough 1-2 upshift. It seems like it hangs for second at the shift point then kind of bucks and shift into 2nd. It normally goes away after a minute or so, and almost always noticed in a parking lot, and never does it again until another completely cold start.

After searching this forum as well as google, it seems like the symptoms are exactly of TSB 13-1-10. However, this TSB only states vehicles up to 12/4/12. My truck was built on 04/13. So even if I could prove this to a dealership, are there any updated PCM shift strategies post 4/13?

In the future I intend on getting a tuner, probably from 5* and some members report that this usually remedies their transmission woes. If this is the case then I'm perfectly fine with dealing with it until such time. But will a 5* tune fix this issue? Thanks!

Have you had your dealer take a look at this, anotherfordguy? They'll best be able to diagnose this; feel free to use this tool to get an appointment scheduled if you haven't already.

Additionally, what's the current mileage on your truck? I'll look into any available options.

I told my dealership about this as well; they 'couldn't reproduce.' Either they weren't focusing on that specifically, or ignored it, as it happens *EVERY* single time there's a cold start.

And it never happened when I first bought the truck, so the whole "Eh, it's a truck" argument doesn't work either. LOL

I have 14 xlt with 5.0 and I also have 5* tunning. I never had trans problem since I been running there tune. I did get the tuner very shortly after I bought the truck as well.

Thanks Brittany, but I'm already at 93k miles and out of warranty and no ESP. Us young bucks are picking up the trade-ins that are post 60k miles and all the problems associated with them!

Yeah that's my problem is its my DD and can't lose her for one night and they'd have to keep it for a morning cold start, and even then I doubt they'd pick up on it. My local stealership couldn't identify a part I took off of my old truck right in front of their eyes, I have no faith in them. I guess I'm going to have to go with 5* tuning like needparts has. Everyone says their shifting is much better with them. I'm of the persuasion that a tuner can't possibly best the reliability that a team of engineers and tons of R & D money has gone into, but maybe with Ford battling against CAFE standards it has made for some wonky shift strategies.

If you already have shifting problems, a tuner may make the issue worse.

Almost definitely. However, this particular tsb is fixed with an updated shift strategy so the issue is fixed by a tuner/IDS. When I say rough 1-2 shift, I mean similar to how my old 4R70W shifted. Nothing wrong with those shifts, but I don't even notice my 6R80 shift in comparison. Only occurs on light throttle, anything somewhat reasonable and I don't feel it.

I understand, anotherfordguy; please know that an escalation to your regional CSM is an option, after an appointment to your dealer. I'll be here to get that started if you're interested.

Please keep me posted!
