Update: Plastidipped Wheels
I posted a couple pictures of my truck in the "show off your fx4" thread around August last year after I had plastidipped my wheels. I promised an update after running them for the winter.
Details:
- about a can and change for all 4 wheels
- multiple light coats (6 or more)
- as stated, done in late summer so they've been on for about 9-10 months
First picture was from my original post and second picture was taken yesterday.
Observations:
1. Colour
As you can see, colour has faded slightly, likely due to southwestern Ontario's love of salty roads and the occasional dirt road tour. I'very found that if I hit the wheels with armour all tire foam that it brings them back 5 black.
2. Integrity
Overall it's held up pretty well despite having slightly more than one can split across 4 wheels. Had her stuck a couple times in the snow withe all four spinning. Ran it through an automated car wash 45 times from December to February (a buddy and I split on a 90 day wash card at petrocan - worth every penny btw) There's a few spots that have worn off but hard to notice until you're up close.
3. Cosmetic satisfaction:
Was very satisfied with the result when I first painted them and I think they still look pretty dang good after all they've been through. Plus for a $5 can of rubber paint you can't really go wrong. I'll probably put a couple more coats on this week or next just to freshen them up a bit. I'd rather have a set of kmc's but until that's in the budget plastidip will do just fine.
Can post more/better pictures upon request.
Side bar - Ford ovals and f150 badges have been dipped since early spring last year and still look great

I've been using this wax since I was 16. I absolutely love it
I bought those tires used and put 20k on them since. Have no idea how many km were on them before I bought them.
