unofficial simple survey on SYNC
What would you like to see Sync do for you that it doesn't? how could it make your life easier? Think outside of box.
Thanks

Keep in mind that Sync is NOT the GPS; it's not the radio; it's not the CD/MP3/DVD player; it's not climate control; it's not BT handsfree and stereo; and it's not Sirius.
It's a module (hardware and software) that provides voice control over these items as well as 'seemless' integration. It's difficult to clearly define the line between the components and Sync itself.
My list:
Allow you to spell POIs.
Overcome BT limitations imposed by phone manufacturers and carriers (phonebook auto download, poor voice quality). This will likely have to be a combination of software and pressure on phone manufacturers.
Provide more detailed performance data in VHR.
Voice activation of mileage tracking for business.
Voice activation of GPS tracking cookies and or tracks.
Provide PC based mapping program to create and download routes, waypoints, etc. (similar to Mapsource) (may be outside Sync's arena).
Download contacts from the phone as destinations (selectable).
Provide satellite and/or hybrid mapping (may be outside of Sync's arena).

-- I would like to be able to use/control the HD radio feature of my Zune.
-- Bigger hard disk (10GB is kinda small).
-- User-upgradable hard drive.
-- Be able to change the color scheme / layout of the interface.
-- Major interface changes are needed. My ZuneHD has a great looking, functional touch interface; the current Sync interface seems kinda clunky.
-- More touch-sensitive goodies (think cover flow on an iPod).
-- Different voice skins for the navigation.
-- The voice synthesizer for the media system doesn't seem as advanced as the one for Navigation (the media voice is forever screwing up the names of songs and artists, but the navi one is great).
-- USB ports in the center console and glove box without a mod.
-- Connect to the internet through my phone.
-- I'd like to be able to listen to my iPod while I'm browsing for a radio station (or something on jukebox), then switch to that new source once I find something.
-- I hate the radio preset limits. With a 10GB hard drive, why not let me create all the presets I want for every source?
-- I'd like for the 'satelite radio' options to go away when my satellite subscription ends (it hasn't ended yet so it might, I dunno).
-- Maybe some realtime fuel economy / system information.
-- Keep a log of where your kid drives with speed and route information.
A lot of these things may change once Ford opens up the Sync Developer Platform.

Shotgun-
You CAN spell POI's. I've been doing it since day 1. I rarely search for POI's by category as it takes too long.
As for my wishes:
1. Voice recognition to be more consistent
2. Integrate my Escort 9500ix radar detector
3. Run the platform on Unix, not Windows! I'm just waiting for a dreaded blue screen one of these days
4. Create a track ball in the middle console so you don't have to punch a thousand different buttons on the dash... too distracting

I would like to be able to load songs off of a portable hard drive or memory stick. Having to rip them off a CD in a real pain it the *****. And besides who buys CD's anymore?

1. work on the text to speech. not everything is going to sound perfect, but one thing apple did incredibly well in Leopard / Snow Leopard is the text to speech... & I can pick male or female voices, depending on what I'm using it for. they sound much more natural than the SYNC lady voice.
2. I want to say "phone call john doe" or "phone call 555-555-5555" sort of thing. you either have to push the sync button & say "phone," then the command after the 2nd beep, or push the phone button & then the sync button for the command. not very streamlined imo. it should be 1 button, then string your command together in one sentence.
I only got sync b/c they had to write MICROSOFT on the damn dash & I complained about it. yes, I am a die hard mac guy, I just couldn't let it go. dealer wanted to sell me this truck b/c I asked to order one without sync, they threw it in the deal for free so they didn't have to order or ship one in that was 130mi away that fit what I was originally looking for (wanted a no frills truck).

I'd like it to still allow you to use the menu of your MP3 player to select songs/playlists. The voice recognition is nice (when it works correctly) but I still like being able to manually select things sometimes esp. when my wife is riding with me and wants to search through the songs for something to listen to on the iPod.
I also wish it would work with the touch screen iPod I bought with my christmas money. The don't like each other too much right now and it appears to be a known issue per Sync's forums but who knows when it will get fixed?
