I commend you on figuring out how to disable all chimes and documenting it. And if you really do want to disable all chimes, this is a great solution.

But personally, I don't want every chime to be disabled. Just the ones that are annoying and stupid in my own subjective opinion.

Examples of chimes I hate and have fixed:

• Seat belt warning chime. 90% fixable by procedure in the owners manual but you still get the four quick chimes if you turn the key before you buckle up. But it only gives four quick bongs and then shuts up.
  
  
• Key in/door open chime. An example of a 'forever' chime. It NEVER stops warning you that your door is open with the keys in! Ignition doesn't even have to be on. Very easily fixed by the wire clip mod.

Chimes I find mildy annoying, but not really a big problem for me:

• Four bongs at startup if I don't buckle my seat belt first. Working on figuring out a fix, but only because I like the challenge.
  
  
• There may be others, but none I can think of right now.

Examples of chimes I'd definitely like to retain:

• Parking brake on when you shift out of park. I rarely use the parking brake on automatics. If I did engage it for some reason (working on car, parked on steep hill, etc) it is not my normal routine to release it when getting in the car. I'd probably notice it pretty quickly as I drove away, but I'd rather be warned before I drive away.
  
  
• Headlight switch ON (not Auto), door open.
  Here's my normal scenario: Night time. Headlight switch in Auto. Park, turn off the key, open the door (no chime), get out, headlights stay on, I walk away, headlights turn off after whatever exit delay you set.
  
  Here's when you get the warning chime: Headlight switch in ON, not Auto (lets assume without realizing it). Park, turn off the key, open the door (Warning Chime!), get out, headlights stay on, I walk away, headlights will NOT turn off after exit delay, but stay on either until you return or your battery is dead. This is worthy of a warning chime in my opinion. I might notice the lights are on if it was at night, but it still wouldn't register as a problem as they are always on at night after you exit if you use Auto and the exit delay.
  
• Major OBDC fault warnings, about to run out of gas warnings, etc.
  
  
• Turn signals. While pretty much everybody agrees they are obnoxiously loud, I really don't want them to be completely silent either.

What other chimes to people find to be particularly annoying??

Here's a variation on your idea that I might be interested in trying... Take apart the dashboard and MUFFLE that little speaker instead of removing it completely. I could then fully disable the chimes I really hate with a wire cut, and reduce the volume of all the others and quiet down the stupid-loud turn signals.

What I don't understand is why is there a key in the ignition warning chime when you can't lock your keys in the damn truck if you tried! I mean come on, it opens the truck back up if you close the door with the keys still in the ignition!

The chimes are the ultimate **** trip. What happened to common sense anyway?? I will attempt this mod this weekend. I have the tools and technical skill to do it. I have NO need for the chime. I grew up with no "warning chimes" in vehicles to "remind" you to have common sense. Apparently I am of a generation where common sense was a part of everyday life.

In my work, I am in the Nevada mountains with drilling crews to visit and field mapping to do. I am in and out of my truck constantly. I must have control of my truck. I do not want my truck to have control of me!! So the boo dee doo-sounding module MUST go. I hope to photograph the procedure and post it for all, with necessary disclaimer (as well as credit for Greg Owen). Hope to post results soon.

If you put your seat belt on before you start the truck. The " boo dee doo" sound, wont happen.

I'll be doing the "key in-door open" fix soon as the new truck arrives! Little is more aggravating to me than dropping off my hunting buddies on one end of a field and spooking the critters because the &%@#$%@ chime went off or had to restart the truck when the rest of us go to post other end of field. I got the keyless entry pad to eliminate the risk of locking the keys in.

This approach is what I would do, a muffled speaker sounds like the route to go. I don't want to eliminate all the chimes, but if I could muffle the blinkers, do up my seatbelt before starting and clip the door open/key in ignition wire, this would be sooo much better.

I think muffled is the best approach for me. Thanks for the info. I will prob get to it and put some duct tape or similar over it to quieten it.

I've left the lights on , the truck has a delay built in to shut them off. Even in the on position they'll shut off after 10 minutes if the ignition is not in the on position. It's a battery minder feature that has been on ford trucks since at least 2004

Like I mentioned early in this post, I did the "muffled approach" on an Escape I used to have. I just squirted some silicone in the chime and it quieted down a lot. Again though, it is a "no turning back" mod.
