Default Turning shudder service

Dropped of the rig at dealer today to have them investigate the slow speed turning shudder. Wish me luck! I'll post results...if it's something besides "we can't duplicate the problem".

Is it limited slip? Change the differential fluid and friction modifier if so.

It is. Limtied slip 355. I'll call the dealer in the morning and recommend that.

Dealer ordered the shim kit identified in 09-22-10 TSB. They're doing the work Monday. I asked them to change out the diff fluid and friction modifier also. To be continued......

TSB work done. Drove the truck 40 miles home from the dealer and the problem seems to be corrected. Keeping my fingers crossed.

FYI: An ice-wrapped pine needle dangling from the underside of the of the chassis sounds alot like a clicking noise in the driveshaft @ highway speed!

Thanks for posting an update.. Much appreciate seeing a thread resolution. Gonna ask about that TSB next time mine is in

ETA. Are you sure that's the right TSB number? I am really interested in where this shim kit goes... Rear driveline? Or up front where the noisr seems to come from. Can't stand the squank over the same drivewsy bump each day...

Default Correct TSB

9-22-12 is the TSB my dealer followed to correct the problem. I haven't had time to put it through a good workout yet but as previously stated, the shudder seems to be drastically reduced if not completely gone.

The TSB issue is described as Shudder on Moderate to Hard Acceleration, often under a load, but mine seemed to be more prevelant when turning at low speeds and accelerating from a near stop. Maybe this put a "load" on the driveshaft. I haven't pulled a trailer with my truck.

Good luck and I hope this helps with your problem.

Default Differential shudder cure - add Friction Modifier!

My co-worker has a 2006 F150 and had the differential fluid changed. She experienced shudder under hard acceleration uphill and when turning. This happend only after the truck warms up. The cure is adding a tube of friction modifiier that was left out of her limited slid differential. It took about one week for the problem to go away after adding the friction modifier. I saw one other forum listing the exact some problem. Don't damage the diferential, add the friction modifier!

I have experienced poping in my explorer around turns and added the friction modifier. This is required in limitied slip differentials.
