Repainting a Topper
Have you looked at different brands of paint? I'm picking up a used topper tomorrow and have no idea which brand to get or how much. I'm guessing 2 quarts should put 2 coats on a topper.
The cap is Tuxedo Black. My truck is Kodiak Brown Metallic. The truck looks like it's black unless it's in the sun. I'm guessing I'll need to repaint at some point.

Mine has to go into the shop now, hit a frickin deer this morning @60 MPH. Going to need new bumper with all the fixings, grill, right headlight and straighten the hood. Never saw it until I hit it, but my dash can saw it, 3 seconds. That's how long it was from the moment it appears on camera until impact. Since the camera is at least 2 feet in front and to the right of me, it captured it, I never saw it.

Can't live without one now that I've had it. Mine is for sale in the trades section if anyone is interested. Need to get rid of it and fund a new one for my 2015. Thanks

very sharp looking truck sir. Mine is also a crew with the long bed and topper and completely agree about can't living without one once having it.

With the Bed Rug inside, its like a little hideaway for me. Good place to take a nap when out and about at the flying field.

If you have a NAPA nearby that does paint, that is what I used on mine. One quart of base and one quart of clear. With the reducer and hardener it came to just about $120. You may want to get a high build primer if there are scratches in it, but when you get the paint, also get a couple of the red scuff pads, you will need them to scuff the paint so the new stuff sticks. If you don't have any scratches or marks to repair, then you can just scuff it real good and shoot the base on that without primer. Since you are going from black to a brown though, you may want to put a light colored seal coat on, or you may find paint stripes when all done since you will have a hard time distinguishing the brown over the black. I went from blue to black, so no need for a sealer.
I picked up the topper last night. Temps were right around 0 so I wasn't able to get the truck washed. The difference will be definitely be noticeable once it's clean. Looking forward to 40 degrees this week to get it cleaned up.
