Dark Wizard, yes both keys were tried. Both keys and remote starts have been in use since it was installed two months ago. Once the truck dedided to start I tried to using the remote start and it did work as well.

You may want to have the dealer check the connections then...sounds like it might be the problem if you tilt the steering wheel then it works as per Dironk's post.

How long ago did this happen to you and has it done it since? I'm now worried that it may happen again but who knows where. I think my next step is to bring it up to the dealership, talk to a technician and get them to scan it and see what they find. I'm up in the city on Saturday, I think I'll stop by Futureshop and talk to one of the installers to see if they have heard of anything like this. If anyone else has any other related stories please tell.
This happened to me back in October and it has not done it since, but now I keep the spare key in close reach in case it does happen again so I will have that as an option. I also worry that it will happen again since our fleet maintenance department has experienced this exact issue also; the vehicles would not start after being delivered to our company and were towed to FORD, once there they started right up with no repairs being made to them. That was one reason I did not give up trying to start mine when it happened to me, I didn't want it towed to FORD and it start right up; which it would have.

Thanks Dironk that's good, yet scary, to know. I personally know most of the staff at the local dealership where I purchased the truck from. I'm going to print or show them this thread. If not they may just go through the motions and lay the balme on the remote starter.
If anyone else has similar stories please post. Thanks guys.

Went to the dealership and they scanned it and the computer told him that the remote starter had to be removed before it could properly diagnose. I did not have the time to let him take it out (after I left I wonder if just pulling the harness out would have sufficed) but the technician figures that it is the bypass module of the remote start. so I was in the city on Saturday and brought the truck over to Future Shop and left it there for an hour but they did not get the time to look at it (and I had to take my son to hockey). Anyway the truck left me high and dry at work tonight so I left it there. I'd like to disconnect the bypass module to see if that will solve the problem. Does anyone know the bypass module would be located so I could disconnect it?

It depends on the installer but it should be tie-wrapped to the harness just above the drivers legs and is a small black box and the wires run over to the main unit which is again tie-wrapped near the steering column.

Default I had the same problem

Tried all of this several times and was ready to give up when I thought, why not tilt the wheel up and down just to try something else and bam it's all good and the truck started. Just a glitch????? Dealer stated he had never heard of this issue.
I had the exact same problem. I had to remove the key and walk away from the truck. I spoke to my dealer about this and they told me that the key basically has an RFID chip and it has a range of about three to four feet. The key sends a code to the trucks computer even before the key is inserted. Something must have interfered with the keys chip.

if the remote start pats interface is the problem .it will start with the remote start but not the key .because the pats interface is staying on and when you put the key in it sees both codes at the same time .pull all fuses on the remote start try or try second key.if nothing starts it .its the receiver.the pats key needs to be close to the receiver so i don't think anything will interfere .most likely its not the remote start unless its one they stuck a key under the dash.

When it does not start it won't start with anything, remote or either key. Now what one of the techs at Ford told me was if I get stuck I can put the key in the "run" position for about 10 minutes and it should reprogram. I've had to do it a couple of times this week.
So far every time it has failed for me has been when the first attempt was by the remote. So for the past 4 days we have not been using the remote and it has been working with just the keys. But I had one attempt when it did not work but I back off the key and retried and it did work (I'm not 100% sure I turned the key all the way to the start position the first try, so I'm not sure if it did fail). That has been the only flaw since we quit using the remote. But the anti-theft alrm was still flashing all of the time. So I did the 10 minute reprogram trick to see if it would clear the alarm but it did not. So on wednesday night I pulled the three fuses going to the remote box and than the 10 minute reprogram trick and still the anti-theft alarm comes in. On Thursday my wife said that the alarm disappeared but the wrench would appear. than last night I just had the anti-theft on and today I have no alarms.
It seems to be working with remote not in use but I'm still getting varying alarms. Does the alarms have to cleared by the techs? But why do the alarms vary? Badcat I couldn't quite understand your write up, could you clarify and take into consideration this write up. I'm also going to go see the techs at the dealership right now?
