Default Truck Won't Go Into Manual

I was driving my truck around the other day and realized it wouldn't shift into manual or any other gear below drive. Has anyone else had this problem before or know how to fix it? My truck is a 2011 F150 XLT 2wd 3.7l extended cab.

Are you trying to change into manual mode while driving? Apparently it will only let you do this while stopped even though you can change on-the-fly in most other vehicles.

Not true. My '14 will let me shift into manual while on the fly I do it all the time. My buddies '11 will also allow it as I've watched him do it from time to time.

Hmm, I'll have to try. The dealer told me I had to be stopped. When I was test driving a 2012 before I bought my vehicle it wouldn't let me shift on the fly. Maybe that one was just f'd.

I can certainly see Ford doing that with all their nanny items but I know from personal experience that I can shift mine to M without being stopped. Let me know what you find when you try it.

I saw this post earlier today and while I was out running some errands this afternoon I tried manual on the fly and it worked in my 2012. The display changed from showing the gears 1 thru 6 to the letter M and the current gear below it. Using the + & - on the shifter I could select the gears I wanted. I hope this helps.

I've tried on the fly and while stopped. The shifter won't physically move down to where M is or to 2 or 1 though.

I did it last night on the way home with this thread in mind. Worked flawlessly and did just as Twin toilets explained.

Could this be a 4x4 thing or a tow package item???

Centor, Can you shift to M or 1,2 while stopped?

No, I can't shift when stopped. The strange part is that I was able to shift it just a couple months ago so I'm wondering if some part broke that's not allowing me to move my shifter down.
