#11
The home owners called the police the morning it was dropped off in front of their house, cop said it didn't come up stolen so has been left for 2 weeks

That's weird. Sounds like some locals broke in to steal your favorite Beiber CD, found your key and went for a joy ride. As mentioned I would be getting that truck re-keyed asap.

Aren't you the one who said your truck was broken into a week or 2 prior to it actually getting stolen? If so - I think you've got some people having some fun with you. I would almost guarantee the same hooligans will be back - and definitely attempting to use that key they now have. (If that wasn't you - sorry - just disregard this post)
I think you mentioned that you can't garage store it - so I'd ask the local PD to step up patrols on your street and maybe even invest in a little motion camera to keep watch out there - so when they do come back - you at least have a shot at identifying the culprits.
I'd like to say its "just kids" - but I know back in "my day" - had someone who was breaking into a car found a key - that baby would be gone & trashed before it was found - if it was even ever found (Lake Erie has been known to eat a few stolen cars around here). Sounds to me like they were shocked to find the truck - took it for a quick joyride - then got scared and left it. I suspect they'll feel a little more brazen - or tell some buddies who have no fear or, may find someone who can really take advantage of a late model truck (strip it) that they now just so happen to have a key for.
I know - a lot of speculation - but having been on both sides of the law myself over the years - my mind tends to start playing things out in situations like this.
I also think its possible that if you do change the keys - and they come back - find they can't get into it - that they'll at do some sort of damage in frustration (broken window, kick the door, scratch it, etc).
Don't mean to be a downer - but I if they've hit your vehicle twice and gotten away with it - I don't see any reason why they won't go a 3rd time.
PS: I'd maybe even leave a creatively written note for them for the next time, and, I hear leaving crushed glass in areas that people stick their hands without looking can be pretty painful (ie, under seats, in center consoles, etc). I'd get creative in anticipation...

Well sounds fishy.
Did the bad/good guys fix the window they broke out?
