Transmission shift points
Hi guys, Got a quick question. Is it inherent in my truck (2010 XLT 4.6/ 6 speed) or is it common that it shifts into 2nd almost off idle, at approximately 8 mph. It really makes the truck lag into a slow turn, VERY annoying.
Once it is past that point, it shifts great.
It does not seem to do it in the Haul mode, but I do not want to run that all the time.

Keep in mind your truck's ECU 'learns' from how you drive. Go out and tromp that mother every time you drive it and you'll see it change. The factory defaults are set up for maximum mpg, so the vehicle will shift into the highest gear it can, as soon as it can.

I almost got broad sided cause of that genius idea.I pulled out into traffic and the car coming was going faster than I thought. So now if I know I need to pull out fast i"ll put the shifter in 1st gear and manually shift it into 2nd and then just throw in to D.

I dont have this issue, I press the gas and I go. Have you had the transmission reprogramed yet? Just a thought its probly not going into second more like 4th, 5th , or 6th, 2nd in these trucks is still pretty low. quickest and easiest way to fix most of these issues is to get a programer.

why not just mash the pedal to the floor and let it downshift to 1st gear?

I really don't think it is shifting into 4th or 5th at 8 miles an hour. I picked it up last Monday so not much programming has been done.
I have been trying to be a little more aggressive starting out from a stop (per earlier suggestion), so I will see if my "modified" driving habits help at all. Strange it would be programmed from the factory to be so quick to shift.
How do they figure you get decent gas mileage when the motor is lugging from shifting so soon. Gotta love those highly educated engineers.

whatever, it always goes to the highest gear possible IF it can, thus it would not be uncommon for it to go 2 - 3 gears higher than the gear it just shifted out of based on your imput, IE coasting at 8 MPG the trans could shift to 3-4th at 1200 rpms.

I'm not coasting, I am starting out form zero with light pedal pressure. Driving along is great, seems to downshift/upshift at the proper points where the power is needed. Even slowing into a turn is seems to be an a good gear to take back off again.

I should have said cruising, not coasting.
