Default Transmission fluid Change

Ok, so, when does Ford recommend you do you first trans fluid change 50,000 miles?

2. Is it something I can do at home? How?

3. Is there a filter I need to change?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I would rather not fork over $200 bucks for someone else to do it.

Did mine @ 30K ...the dealer did it for $107.00...best part the driveway is still clean. Very messy unless you have done it before.

Tranny gets flushed, its not a simple drain and refill like motor oil. It is possible to DIY but its worth the $150 to get it done with the right machine.

unfortunately, vinny is right. these trucks don't have filters anymore, it's a screen that captures the junk. the only way to clear it is to have the truck serviced & flushed (backwards) to clear the screen.

I've never seen a machine that pushes fluid backwards against the TC. The one's I've seen couple into the cooler and just replace the old fluid with new. The pan is usually dropped to change the filter and/or wash the screen. Is this a Ford dealer machine? It's been years since I've messed with one.

Service interval is 150k for tranny. I might do mine at 100k, but no way at 50k or before....

I'm not 100% sure, talked to a mechanic once about this, was what he said at the time. There isn't a pan drop anymore that he described. from my HVAC / plumbing experience, I can push fluid any direction I want when hooked up to do so Ford says these are sealed units now, shouldn't have to touch them save from the fluid change interval. there's no dipstick we can use on them (there is one but it requires going under the truck & pulling a bolt from the casing).

150K miles before the first trans flush? I'm not going to trust that, and I'm going to get it done at 50K. Another I dont trust but cant change is the fuel filter being in that tank. I'd change that every 15 - 20k too if it was reachable. I dont like or trust all this stuff that lasts the entire truck or excessive miles.

you can change it earlier if you want but I'm glad they went to the screen. if the unit stays sealed up like it was meant to, all that screen does is catch stuff that breaks loose, which is all it needs. I got a quote to have a filter & flush done on a car. We sold the car, was going to be really expensive. Would be all for the filters if they did what Saturn & Allison did with the spin off the side ones.
