all trucks if thay have a 4 pin flat trailer plug(FACTORY INSTALLED) it should work with out the fuse and relay. one even said his brakes worked but not running lights till fuse was added WTF? BIG RED FLAG THERE? the same 4 pins in both plugs should work from factory with out the addition of fuses and relays.
it was that way on all my new trucks -07 & 10 F150, 08 & 09 ranger, 08 E350 and the wife's 07 expo. the 08 E350 van has only the the 7 pin and no 4 pin flat. so sounds like to me some things wrong but i am talking from my experience's only.

my lightbar had a the flat 4 connector on it with an extra wire for the reverse lights. It didnt work at all without the fuse and relay. However i hardwired it in once I got it working. maybe his trailer has reverse lights too.

soooo, in conclusion I have come to the realization that the internet can be very very helpful, but sometimes it can also be TMI, meaning that my mechanical abilities far exceed trailer light fuses, and me jumping the gun thinking it was some under lying issue that was soo great that is my fault. next time something happens like this I think I will just take a deep breathe and walk away for a bit.

Thanks for the help

Default trailer lights 2009 F150

My trailer lights were out and the culprit was more than one thing. 1-the ground wire, 2- lights burnt out, 3- the running lights would not work and #31 in the fuse box was blown.

I just bought a new, leftover 2010 Lariat; I have a boat trailer that uses a flat 5 connector (for solenoid lockout of hydraulic brakes)...on my last truck, i just ran a single wire from the backup light with a female connector that i would plug into the extra male prong on the trailer 5 plug connector. On this new Lariat, do I have to plug in the relay/fuse assembly (that was in bag in door) do get that same functionality? Can't try this now, because trailer is still surrounded by lots of snow.....
