Default Remote Start Problem (100 Series 'Plug-n-Play'). Any advice? Tips? Video inside...

Hello all... I'll try to keep this brief.

Recently had a remote start system installed on my 2014 F150 XLT (100 Series Plug-and-Play). Needed the hood switch/kit as well for it to work.

Got it home from the dealer and tried it out. Didn't work. Got a honk instead of it starting. Didn't work for days... made an appointment with Ford dealership who installed it (Al Packer White Marsh). Got it to the dealer, went to show them the problem and it started. They looked at me like I was crazy. Felt like I was crazy. It worked for a day or so and then started to do the 'honk' think again and would only work about 50-60% of the time.

I figured the hood switch maybe wasn't being depressed enough but even when I open the hood and hold the button down manually, it would still only work when it wanted to. Usually one day it would work every time I tried it. Then the next, it wouldn't work at all despite trying a dozen times to get it to work. So I know it's not my timing with pushing the buttons.

So, to me, something is not right.

Here's what it looks and sounds like when it does not work:

Any suggestions? Do I simply have a bad remote start unit or hood switch?

Any input would be appreciated!

There is a fault somewhere, there is a list of things that will cause it not to start

One I remember is if the check engine light is on it won't work

Thanks for the response! The 'check engine light' isn't lit up. Nothing else is showing an error, either (at least on the dash). I went through the manual and couldn't find any hints there... but I did fiddle with the settings... changed the run time and all that. Still no dice.

I'm stumped... and I'm having a hard time convincing my dealer something is wrong... very frustrating.

Try changing the battery in the remote, it might be almost toast. Mine has done that before

No... not yet. It's just about midnight here and I don't have any spare batteries on hand... lol. I assume I can just pop the key apart with a knife and then see what kind of batteries I need?

I'll give that a shot tomorrow in my travels and see if that helps. I have noticed that, even when it does work, that I have to be within 100' of the vehicle to get it to work. It's supposed to work up to 300'... so I wonder if the batteries could indeed be toast?!

I'll report back. But by all means... if anyone else has any experience with this, please chime in!

I appreciate all the input so far.

It's not in Valet mode or anything like that, is it? Many times, I've come home from the Dealer, and they've set my truck auto starter to Valet mode, to make it safe to work on, then not take it out when they wee done. I'd get home, and next morning, wouldn't start. I had a hell of a time looking up in the manual to figure out how to set it back to regular start mode. Just a thought.
