I can not find anywhere that states definitively what the towing capacity of this truck is. I have found that the '04-'08 can tow up to 9,500lbs with the 5.4 and a 4 speed auto. This thing has approx 10hp more and same tq but the 6 speed auto has to do something for towing.
*** Just some peice of mind for us Ford guys- the max towing capacity for the:
F150 '04-'08- 9,500 (5.4L Triton V8)
Tundra- 10,500 (5.7L iForce V8)
Titan- 9,400 (5.6L V8)
Silverado 1500- 8,900 (5.3L Vortec V8) Ram 1500-8,550 (5.7L HEMI V8)

What year ram are you looking at??? I was looking at a mega cab 4x4 5.7 hemi and its capacity was not that high if a recall correctly,
open your driver door, the load and other good info should be there...

Generally a 4x4 has a lower towing capacity than a 4x2 due to less drivetrain power loss (I guess). All vehicles that I noted were 2wd models. The 09's were the only thing I looked at. The '09 Ram 1500 Hemi 4x4 was like 7900 if I am not mistaken.

That sounds like what I remember...My Fx4 is 9500 capacity though.
If you call your dealer with the vin number they can decifer and tell you gear ratio, wheel base length, super cab / crew all come into play as far as that goes.
My 09' 5.4 Screw has the max tow package with the 3.73 LS rear, tele tow mirrors, and brake controller. Its rated 11,300 lbs. The receiver hitch is rated at just over 1,100 lbs tongue weight with a WD hitch, 500 lbs with a regular hitch.
I hooked up my 24' travel trailer today to give it a try after properly adjusting the WD hitch for the new truck. The TT is about 5,000 lbs with a tongue weight just under 700 lbs. I had to keep looking back to make sure the TT was attached. It pulled like a dream compared to my old 98' F150. I am also very happy with the factory brake controller. Seemed smoother than even my high-end Tekonsha P3. Though the tow mirrors are way overkill for daily driving, they're fantastic with the trailer attached. Just wish they had a electric stow feature to keep em safe when parked.
Now personally I wouldn't try and pull 11,300 lbs especially if something like a TT with a high profile. A 5th wheel would be a little better approaching the max capacity but I like to keep about a 75-80% headroom for safety and minimizing wear and tear on the tow vehicle. That means I wouldn't tow more than about 9,000 lbs with my setup any appreciable distance.
