I'm wondering about the payload difference also. In the SCAB 4x4 6.5' I'm looking at the GVRW Eco is 7200#, the 5.0L 7350# and the Max tow Eco 7700#

Payload is 1660, 1830, and 2000# on the 3.

Why does the 5.0 have a 150# GVRW and 170# payload advantage over the standard tow Eco?

There been many threads on this. The regular tow packages give you 3.73 rear, upgraded radiator, transmission oil cooler (sits right in front of the upgraded radiator), hitch in the back with the trailer plug ins next to the hitch ( which ford did a good job hiding the hitch all you see is the square receiver)

Max tow, adds brake controller, big elephants ear mirrors, upgraded bumper. As far as bigger leaf springs I don't think so. You have to get the heavy payload package to get thicker springs and 7 lug wheels.

Just get the regular tow package.
Buy slip on tow mirrors for the once in awhile if u you tow a wide trailer or boat your towing. And the upgraded bumper is stupid cuz ull always use the hitch.

Evidently some stuff has changed from 11-12. I'm positive 11 models came with tow mirrors on max tow package.

Regarding the bumper. It is upgraded because the hitch is integrated into the bumper. What they call a bumper is really just a skin over the hitch itself. You can buy the bumper in three pieces, believe it or not.

By upgraded bumper they actually mean hitch, strange wording. The MaxTow hitch is rated at 11500lbs vs 10500 for the regular tow if I recall

As for the springs... we are still waiting for someone to confirm they are the same or not. They sure look similar but they still could be different.

For sure it gives you extra payload on the sticker!

Actually the regular tow package gets you a 3.55 rear end and if you get the Max tow it raises it to 3.73,no choice. This is yet another reason to get only the regular tow package unless you make a career out of towing - slightly (4.7%) better mileage at the expense of slightly less acceleration.

In 2011 the only mirrors with Max tow were the Dumbos. Apparently for 2012 you can get Max tow and skip the Dumbos,. Unless you have a really big garage door and skip the drive-ins, I agree with the concept of standard mirrors and clip-ons for towing.

My stx 4x4 5.0 has 3.73 tow pkg and I love it. I deff wouldn't want 3.55. I love the more torque.

If you are going to be towing 10,000 or 11,300 I would just get a super duty at that point.

Lets just settle this whole different leaf spring & shock thing once and for all. I was told by a Ford dealership parts guy that I trust that the two VINs I gave him (1 max tow & 1 reg tow) had the same leaf spring part numbers. I did not bother to go back and check him because I trust him. Lets put this to the test and see. Can anyone with max tow (WITHOUT HEAVEY DUTY PAYLOAD)oblige my curiousity and the sake of resolving this argument by taking a pucture of their shock & leaf spring parts numbers. Thanks!

The part number to the shocks should be on the upper portion of the shock sticking out. Here is mine on my regular tow package.
The part number is AL34-18080-ED

The spring part number is on the bottom forward (as in the side toward the front of the truck) part of the spring.
The part number is AL34-5560-AA

I do know from working in a Ford parts department many years ago that the first set of numbers (e.i. AL34) mean the year this part was initiated and what is was for if my memory serves me correctly. The middle section (i.e. 5560) means the actual kind of part. For instance, every rear leaf springs part number on every Ford vehicle has 5560 in the middle beacause that is the number for a rear leaf spring. The last set of digits (i.e. AA) means revisions such as an improved design or a switch of vendors. For instance, "A" would be the first style and an extra "A" or "B" would mean there was a revision to the first design. A "B", "C", or "D" in the beginning of this set would mean a different vendor from the origional from what I remember. This set of numbers is not too important. So please, those with max tow post your pics and prove my freind and I right....... or wrong!

Do you mind posting your VIN? My guess is that you don't have Max Tow, just the towing package plus the brake controller. Your window sticker would verify it.

The tow mirrors are apparently not included in the Canadian Max Tow package, but as far as I've heard they are still standard in the US.

My code on the right rear spring is P CL34 5560 NA.
On the right rear shock is AL34-18080-ED.
Vehicle is a 2012 FX4 Ecoboost Max Tow 145" wheelbase.
Spring code on the door sticker is UUGG

CL34 5560 NA.... That is the same part number that another member said was part of a TSB replacement by Ford to fix the shudder issue. Since yours is a 2012 and mine is a May 2011 build, that might explain the difference in those. It could aslo be that they are differrent springs for the both packages too. Before I call it, can anyone with an early 2011 build max tow package Screw or Scab post their part number of their spring that has not had TSB 11-9-17 done on their truck post their spring part numbers.
