Tire/Rim suggestions for 2013 FX4 ecoboost
Hey Guys,
I'm coming up on 60,000 miles on the tires that came with my truck. Pirelli Scorpions .
A little background, I park in concrete garage with a height limit of 6' 5".
I've always wanted level out my truck, and add some all terrain tires/rims....if the garage height wasn't in the equation, I'd lift my truck 2 inches (suspension)....it doesn't seem like I'm going to be able to go that route.
2 questions:
anyone have any experience with just leveling out the truck (puck lift)? how much higher does the truck sit? (I don't wanna be the guy who levels out a truck and scrapes my moon roof on concrete above).
some of their favorite all terrain rim and tires (experiences with the ride? how long the treads last?)
I'm thinking a black type off road rim.
Thanks for the help!!

Yea I would just put a 2" leveling kit on the truck.
I went with a 2" level with 305/50/20 General Grabber AT's and 20x9 Helo 878's. Pretty pleased with the setup. The tires are big enough to make the truck look good but small enough not to sacrifice gas mileage/power.

My parking garage at work is also 6'5" and I have a leveled 2WD with 275/65/18 Cooper ATP's and I clear the garage. My tires are the same overall size as the stock 20's that come on the FX4, but since mine is a 2WD I do not have as big of blocks in the back.
I have never stopped to see the exact amount of space left to clear the gap to the garage, but it is VERY close. If you level your truck, I would not get any bigger size tires than what you have now. If you want to do a lift and tires, see if there is an alternative place to park outside where clearance isn't an issue.
I have had these tires for about 10k miles and I love them. They weren't too expensive and handle decently well on all surfaces. They also look great!

Update on selecting rims and tires
Hey guys, I appreciate all information posted.
I recently just moved into a larger concrete garage which gives me an additional 3 inches of clearance.
the height limit is at 6' 8".
I've been at wheel and tire packages on customwheeloffset...
There's no doubt I'll have the clearance to put a leveling kit. I'm still trying to figure out what size tires I can get away with without having to rubbing or having to trim at all.
here are a couple of setups I've been looking at:
Mayhem Riot 20x9 18
Atturo Trail Blade XT 295/60
Hostile Switch Blade 20x10 -19
Atturo Trail Blade MT 33"x12.5"
Fuel Maverick 20x10 -12
Toyo Open Country Mt 33"x12.5"
Fuel Maverick 20x10 -12
Nitto Trail Grappler 295/55
Fuel Lethal 20x10 -12
Federal Couragia MT 33"x12.5"
XD XD825 20x10 -24
Nitto Mud Grappler 33"x12.5"
some of these require some trim work but they look pretty good.

Personally, I'm a fan of the XD series and Nitto tires. With the 12.5" width you'll probably have to do some trimming depending on the rim and its offset.
Nitto Mud Grapplers are a sweet tire, but they don't last very long from what I've seen. They are a super aggressive off road tire so they don't do too well in the rain, comparatively.
I would go either Nitto Trail Grappler or Toyo MT's.
It's all about what you will use it for and what look you are going for. I think Nitto Trail Grapplers give you the look of an aggressive mud tire without much of the on-road performance sacrifice.
Good luck in your tire decision, I hope this helps!

I kept my factory 20's and went with P275x60x20 Toyo AT2's (33x11) these look a little better then the stock Bridgestones I had and give decent offroad traction. Being lightweight they still give good fuel mileage and performance. Money saved on not buying wheels I used to put Bilstein 5100's on all 4 corners and leveled the front 1-1/2 inches. This was kind of an all around compromise for looks and still be a comfortable daily driver.

JR, thanks for posting this as I am in the same boat as you. My 2013 FX4 has the OEM Scorpions and I am looking to replace them after about 45k miles. They got a little too squirrely for my taste last winter.
It seems like you have a good selection narrowed down for your setup. I have very beginner knowledge with selecting tires, especially for the truck with all of the options out there.
1) Does any else live in a similar climate as CO/Denver? I am looking to get a solid all season tire that handles well in the winter. If at all possible I am looking to avoid two sets of tires for the seasons. Is that realistic? What would you suggest?
2) Are most people staying with their stock 20" wheel or can you down size to 18"? What are the pros and cons here?
Thanks!
