Disappointing Fuel Mileage 5.0
I have a '13 FX4, 5.0 SCAB, 3.55 gears, 20s. current tank: 14.2mpg, since new: 13.8mpg. I drive on the conservative side of "normal". I drive exclusively city and inner suburbs, never jackrabbit start, and don't speed. I seldom to never haul or tow anything- what am I doing wrong? When I took it in to the stealership for it's first oil change I asked about the fuel mileage, and the service writer said that it was spot on for comparable trucks. Do you guys agree with that? I didn't buy it for mileage, but this is almost ridiculous.

I don't have many miles on my truck yet, but I have the 5.0 in a SCREW 2wd 3.55 and I drive like an old man most of the time. Granted this isn't apples to apples, but I'm seeing around 18mpg. I believe it's supposed to get 21mpg and the way I drive I thought I would be close to that. No luck here.

I have basically the same set up but with the scab and 18"wheels. I drive probably 20% city and the rest highway I get 16 but I like to run the truck every few days. Break its *****. Nothing like blowing by a jerk in his straight piped civic.

Quality gas has been the biggest improvement for me. I can see a 2mpg+ gain with good quality gas compared to smaller chain gas stations.
I get between 18.5-21MPG depending on where I get gas ('13 5.0 screw 3.55)

I have had 2 5.0 now. I had a 2011 XLT 3.55 gears, 4x4 all stock and I got about 15.5 city and 21 Highway, Sometimes I could get 16 to 22. Now I have a 2014 XLT with a 6 in lift, 35x12.50 tires, 3.55 gears, 4x4 and I get about 13 city and 17 highway. It all depends on how you drive them also.

Also, do you ever just let it idle, like remote start or anything like that?

18MPG consistently with my 5.0, 3.55 gears, heavy foot. I sit in stop and go traffic every morning and evening.
