Does anyone have the ford part number for the tailgate panel?

Resurrecting this from the grave lol. I've decided to do this mod and have a question about the access panel. Other that aesthetics is there any reason to have the tailgate Line-X'd? I plan on covering it with a BedRug so it won't be seen, plus my truck is Tuxedo black so the primed panel might blend in ok.

Any reason not to leave it primed as-is? Also, it will be under a retractable cover that will be installed this week (TCUSA).

I did this on my Tux black truck also. I have not had the tailgate Line-X'd yet. It blends in well enough, but I will get it lined at some point.

If you are doing the bedrug I see no reason to not leave it primed black.

I also just did this on my Tux Black truck. The primered panel is black, but definitely does not directly match. I had mine Line-X'd and it looks fantastic. I didn't cut the tabs out like some have, but just trimmed the center bump to ensure that the bed cap stays in place.

The only thing I have noticed is with the weight reduction the tailgate is almost a bit too light for the factory tailgate springs. Has anyone else noticed this?

I am wondering if the DeeZee Tailgate assist will do away with that or if maybe a small weight added under the access panel would be a good idea?

Just bought my panel. Does the top lip of the access panel go under the plastic tailgate cap? If it goes on top, there is quite a gap for the center 2 screws. Any issues with that?

It doesnt go under nor on top of the plastic, you must have it upside down.

Yea me too, I forgot about the retaining tabs. It must go on top.

Here is a pic for the curious.

I needed to trim the step plastic piece more. Thanks.

Default 2016 Tailgate Access Panel Prices...very high

I'm resurrecting this thread for the second time...I'm wanting to remove my tailgate handle on my 2014 just like the previous posters...my issue...current pricing I've found for part number 9L3Z-9943121-A (access panel for 2009-2014) is $352 (Tasca/eBay/dealership/etc.) its 4-5x more than what it seems previous folks have paid. Also, no salvage parts in my area to be had for this new of a model.

Question: Can I use the pre 1997-2008 access panel part (~$60)? part number YL3Z9943121AA I think? Is this some mess up or sick joke from Ford? Other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
