X2.

I love the step but I have never even used my stripper pole, still has plastic on it. It's a waste for me

Same here I can see it's usefulness but I hate looking at it, especially with that yellow ****.

I'm glad to find this post. I have a truck on order and wanted the step, but not the pole. I'll do mine as soon as it arrives.

I've used the pole maybe twice since new. It gets more use showing people when they ask "what is this"..... It does suck to sit on the gate with it but not $51 worth.

from original post:
Using access panel from tasca. 9L3Z-9943121-A It was easy to place and bolt on. I ordered 8 bolts part #(8) W710734-S439 but didn't like them and bought 13-6mm x10mm phillips head bolts from home depot for .38 cents a piece. Versus a dollar piece from tasca.

Good job on the mod. I wouldn't mind getting rid of my pole too. It causes my BedSlide to need 1/8" shim at the end of the tailgate to clear the handle. 1/8" isn't a lot but the BedSlide took 2 1/2" of clearance under the bed already. I kept the old tailgate protector from the old truck in case I want to pull this one off - looks like it'll be pretty easy to do.
