tailgate lock

Tailgates for sale here! Get your tailgates! Any year, any color, get em while they're hot! Just kidding.
Seriously, as a Police Officer I've seen it several times where someone reports a tailgate stolen. The better you keep your truck, the more likely it will happen too.
Great advice from the Service Tech.

Check these photos, I've marked the mounting hole screws and arrows in black that I drilled thru the talegate and screwd into the tapped mounting plate .
Look at the top of the 1st photo, and bottom left of the 2nd.

Oh, ok. Is there a problem with putting that plate back on with those big screw heads?
Also how did you put the connector (and what type did you use) so you can remove your tailgate?

The manual is interesting (in funny way) in that it says,
" TAILGATE LOCK (IF EQUIPPED)
Your vehicle may be equipped with a tailgate lock designed to help prevent theft of the tailgate. "

My tailgate has the man step and is fitted with a ford bedlinner, which has the moulded talgate cover. There's plenty of room under the gate cover to allow for the machine screw heads.
Concerning wire connectors, in the first photo, look at the wires from the acutator, their blue and green. I connected these with standard insulated blade connectors, incase I have to replace tha acutator. Also after the wire loom leaves the tailgate and goes thru the bed opening, I used 2 more insulated blade connectors , and wrapped them with tape to keep the elements out. I can't forsee any reason for me to remove the gate, but I've made provision for this by using the insulated blade connectors.
One thing I should mention concerning connecting the lock and unlock wires in the door sill, the tailgate lock will actuate everytime you use the remote, wether its the drivers door or the passengers doors your locking or unlocking. I did not bother to look for the wires just for the passenger doors. It's not a big deal, also the gate locks automatically when your speed increses to about 10mpg, if you have the auto lock feature enabled.
