Tailgate cables
I have a 2010 f-150. Should the cables that hold the tailgate be the same length? My dealer said no. I can't believe that ford designed this truck to have all the weight fron the tailgate be put on the drivers side cable. Some help please

My cables are a different lenth. I was gonna mention it to the dealer when I took it back for first service. I guess I'm not the only one. Is there a reason for all the weight being on one cable? I never did a search on it so if it's been beaten to death I didin't know about it.

Yah, well I had the tailgate from my 2010 fall off onto my thigh while trying to close it.....Told the dealer and they didn't care. Should be a warning or something that the tailgates come off so easily........

The cables are the same length. There is the illusion that the passenger side isn't right because of the torsion bar that makes up the 'lift assist' feature on the gate, it lifts up that side of the gate just a little bit, and makes that right-side cable look too long.

I'm not gonna reiterate all the other posts, but all the weights not on one cable. As soon as you put any other weight on the gate, it smooths them down nicely.
However, Steenbag is the best explanation I've seen yet. There was a HUGE thread on this not long ago. Search for it. Guys even had new cables put on and still the same. Check out the dealership, every new truck is like that.

I noticed that on my new truck as well. Then I checked my 92 Chevy that I bought new and one was tight and the other loose. I figured if the chevy was like that for 19 years without me knowing and not a problem then there is no need to be concerned about the Ford.
