Default Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil

Good Morning all.

I have an 09 FX4 with a 5.4L (15,000 kilometers).

Is anyone using a synthetic blend and are you noticing any immediate benefits (eg. MPG & Performance). Just wondering if the added cost is worth it. Additionally, what brand are you using and /or recommending?

I look foward to all responses.

Thank you.

Thanks for this post.

The Tiger Woods "news conference" did not provide the entertainment I seek today.

from my research on the web about this, most synthetics have some sort of mineral oil base to it. now, where the synthetics come in is a huge complex chemistry that fills the gaps, adds a detergent property, & is more tightly controlled so the weight of the oil is more accurate & seems to hold up better over time.

the only drawbacks I saw were older engines that were designed for heavier traditional oils as they get older, there is more wear & will actually use oil & the issues with the seals in the early days (swell with trad oil, retract with syn oil & causes leaks).

The F150 ships with syn blend & is marginally more expensive to buy than reg oil. I can buy the motorcraft blend for less than $3/qt, just about all the stores that have it around here. the 5qt jugs make it a bit cheaper.

I'm not sure myself yet if I want to go Mobil 1 full syn or not, it's about $6.50/qt.
