An actual hard drive is not a good idea unless its a solid state hard drive. Disk type drives are not designed to handle all the bumps your truck will encounter on a daily basis and likely wont last long. A typical USB thumb drive is far cheaper and better and will last much longer for this application.

Do you have the sync update? I think it's 3.2.2.

I use the tiny ones in black. Disappears into the dash.

16gb is only $20 or so.

I have the latest update and I find My Sync is very erratic. It doesn't start back up where it was previously and voice commands don't always work.

Unless you are in a Raptor flying over dunes at 99 you shouldn't have issues if in an enclosure and not against any other hard surface like you dash or console. SSD is entirely too expensive still to use for this application. Look at your music library size and how much you want to spend and make a decision if you want to not use your iphlone. I personally will not use one anymore for other reasons then SYNC. Are you even able to pull your itooned music off the phone, put it on an external device and play it?

My voice commands use to work like magic before the update. I would have the windows down and I couldn't even hear my voice over the wind and sync nailed it dead on like 99% of the time. I couldnt be more impressed. But after update, it took like 2 weeks to get back to that stage. No matter what I said, sync acted like i wasn't saying anything and would just time out.

Can the update be rolled back?

Thats why flash drives are so great, they essentially are stolid state drives in smaller package and are much cheaper depending on how many gigs you need. Ive seen 128 gig flash drives on newegg.com for around 220$ or a 16 gig for like 10$ Personally if you have a crapload of music I would get a few of the smaller drives and just change them out as sync works better with less music. Ive found that when I had over 5000 songs on the drive sometimes sync had a hard time finding the song I wanted, of course they may not have all been indexed properly either.

Did anyone get this resolved? My truck was working perfectly with my iPhone 3GS all day. Went to the store, got in to go home and it said index full. Did a factory reset and now it just says indexing and never finishes. I don't get it. I'm on 3.2.2 Gen 1
