apple sometimes doesnt play nice with others, try getting a flash drive, they are cheap, smaller, and work a whole lot better with sync than an ipod or an iphone. Then you can just leave it in the truck and your music will always work.

That's why I keep most of my music on 3 categorized flash drives.

Not that this will help, but apparently this is a common problem that is not limited to Apple devices. On the Ford Sync forum, there are folks having the same problem with many devices, including Microsoft's Zune, 4GB USB drives, and Sony. I haven't found an answer on that forum yet, but here's the thread if you want to add to it:

One suggestion was to do a Master Reset which would clear out the index, but that seems a lot like stoping your truck by driving into a tree.

Any specific flash drives better than others?

My two cents: I hesitate to answer since you may already have a preferred brand in mind, but I will anyway. My experience is that you generally get what you pay for with computer storage and according to some computer experts, the better known brands may outperform and outlast less expensive ones. Performance differences (i.e., read/write speeds) would be due to the two types of memory that are used in the drives, but listening to music isn't very read/write intensive since the read speed doesn't need to be much faster that the recorded bit rate of the song. In any case, they are all so cheap that it probably doesn't make a difference what brand you use. If the manufacturer has the stones to put actual performance data on the packaging, it's probably a good product.

Skip the flash drive. Go with an external hard drive. I doubt you'll fill up one of these. And they're not much bigger than a pack of smokes.

The OP was referring to his SYNC index stating it was full, not his storage media (IPOD).
