So I realize that the RIAA got thier greedy fingerprints all over the Sync functionality so that we cannot load into the jukebox our LEGAL MP3s. Has anyone found any workaround so I am not required to have my IPOD in the truck at all times?

Yup, they made it almost useless. The best mod is to come off the 2nd USB port into the center console and hide a external HD in there. Just burn all your mp3's onto the HDD and plug it in, safely hidden away. I have a simple 120 Gb: it's small and it's more than enough for every album I've ever owned.

there is a work around, its just a big, big pain. First you have to burn all your iTunes files onto audio CD's (I said it was a big pain). I just went though and turned them all into 1.2 hr play lists. Then move your entire iTunes library to a different folder. Then in iTunes go to Edit menu, then preferences. Click on the Import settings button and make sure your import settings are set to mp3 and whatever bit rate you prefer. Then go through and import all those discs you burned as mp3's and voila, your entire iTunes library is now mp3 audio compatible with sync. Good luck.

maybe i missed something but why do all that if you just set itunes to import songs as mp3,set the bit rate do it like that.i dont understand the cd part but what do i know.

That whole explaination was to take songs that you bought on iTunes (that are protected AAC) and convert them to files that work with sync (unprotected mp3's).

In my '07 Fusion I was able to drag .mp3 files from the iTunes music folder onto a jump drive and it worked fine with sync... would this work with the new version of sync?

these days its possible to buy songs from iTunes both protected and unprotected.

the only way you can play a song straight from a jump drive or hard drive is if it has no protection on it at all.

what sync needs is a way to load your licenses.

Hey All,

My F150 FX4 is coming in the week of May 18 and I have been reading on SYNC. It seems that you can rip CD's right into jukebox and they are then stored onboard. Has anyone done this and/or am I correct in what I have been reading.

if that's right... that's friggen slick. just take the computer straight out of the equation.

my only question would be about getting information about the song names... cd rippers usually connect to some sort of db for that info...

If they're protected then no, but if they're unprotecte then yeah.
