When I select "messaging" with my iPhone 5 paired, I get this:
Both phone and truck software are up to date.

Well I had to do a master reset on my MFT today. The voice recognition was not working properly and now after having my text working before it does not work anymore. I did all of the tips I did before to get it working and no luck. However the last time I did the tips it did not work until it was like my MFT did a reboot or maintenance it said. Then it started to work. Is there a way for one to force a maintenance? I can't find anything in the settings to do this?

Alright guys, I just figured it out. My iPhone 5 was not working for text messaging with my 2013 Platinum either. I was getting the same message as jgohike showed.
Now it works.
AFTER you enable the "show notifications" setting in the bluetooth setting like Boosted told us. Turn the car off or reboot your phone. Then messaging will work.
I rebooted my phone and it fixed messaging. On my wife's Edge with MFT we turned the car off and back on. What is happening with the reboot of the phone or turning the car off and back on is forcing a disconnection of bluetooth. I suspect turning off bluetooth on your iPhone will have the same effect. When the bluetooth connection is re-established MFT and the phone perform a handshake that tell MFT that the phone allows messaging.
This allows the messaging support to work.
Now it works.

I cracked it, gents!
2013 FX4 with MFT, Nav, Sony (8" screen). iPhone5.
Got my text-to-speech working! For me, it was setting on my IP5.
On your iPhone, go to Settings, Bluetooth. You should see a screen like this:
Touch the little blue arrow on the right (right of "connected" on this screen), which will take you to the BT configuration screen for Sync. The screen should look like this:
Make sure "Show Notifications" is turned "ON". I am pretty sure this was the fix for me.
On the truck, go to settings (the gears at the bottom of the screen), select "Settings" on the left and then "Phone", like this:
then "Text Message Notification" like this:
then pick "Text to Speech", like this:
Hit the back button a couple of times, then "home".
At this point, I turned the truck off and also turned BT off on my phone (rebooting the phone isn't required). I opened the truck door to make sure the radio and MFT turned off.
Count to 3, close the door, start everything back up, give it a minute to settle and for the phone to sync.
Then in MFT, settings, phone, "Messaging" (on the left) and bingo! It's working hopefully....
Thanks to everybody who helped with this. After going through this whole thread again, I realize these instructions are repeats from previous posts...I just didn't understand what they were saying. Hopefully, with the pics I've posted it's clearer.

Well that don't work for everybody. I have the show notifications enabled. I had mine working at one time and now after my Master Reset it does not work. And the first time trying to set it up I had lots of issues until my MFT screen went blank on me and then ran a maintenance program. But I have the show notifications enabled and followed all the instructions in the post above this one and it does not work for me. I may get the "this device does not support text messaging and times when I go in to the settings I may not.
