Swapping 2012 FX4 lights to 2014 HID
Hey guys,
A friend of mine is going to be trading in his 14 fx4 for another vehicle. He has agreed to swap the headlights with me. Which is great saves me the cost buying a set. My question is what will be needed to make it an easy swap? I have a lumens aftermarket HID kit, and I'm told it will plug play with the oem HID lights, what would be involved in making his truck work with the normal halogen bulb? is it just a matter of unplugging the factory harness or what. Any info would be great.

All you need to make them work is the Oem Hid heads, and this... Then its Plug N Play....

Ive never heard anybody going HID to halogen. Seen the question asked before, but never saw it completed. Not saying it cant be done, but probably need to take it to someone who is really good with automotive wiring.

to bad I can't just throw a bulb into his truck and he'll be done, christ this sucks, I don't want to have to pay for lights I can get free. But I can't leave him with no lights

Well it seems to me that there would still have to be 12v coming out of the trucks harness and then the ballast does its job. So what I think is its an issue with the BCM and programming it so it does not throw a code when you plug in the halogen lights. Have you looked at the connector on the truck to see if it's the same as your truck? Might put a meter on it to verify its putting out 12volts.

The voltage to the ballast on your friend's truck will be 12V. He will probably need a wiring harness to plug into the connection of the bulb. Look at his truck and see if there is a wiring harness you guys can swap. There may not be anything that either of you have to buy. I haven't looked at Fords but a fair amount of manufacturers attach the ballast to the headlight housing. Is this the case?
