super-weird TPMS question after lifting truck...
Hey, all.
I have a 2013 F150 FX4 SCrew. I put a lift and new wheels/tires on it about two months ago. When I left the shop, they assured me that the factory TMPS sensors had been put in the new wheels. I have not had an alert from the system, so I never questioned the sensors being in the new wheels (they gave me the factory wheels and tires back mounted and inflated due to some "insurance regulation," so I was never able to physically see the sensors).
The question I have is based on something that happened today... The new tires are supposed to have 40-45psi in them according to the factory rep. I checked them and they were only showing 39psi on my gauge. I do have a 5* tune programmer and have the TPMS alarm set to go off at 40psi, so I thought it odd that it hadn't alerted me. I re-programmed the truck to go off at 45psi and it did NOT set off the alarm even though I can confirm the tires are -6psi below that limit. Basically, from what I can tell, the TPMS is totally a-functional at this time, because the light would be on all the time if the sensors weren't installed... right?! Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there any way that the sensors weren't installed and the shop is trying to pull one over on me? Help!!
Thanks in advance.
Matt

If the sensor is not in the wheel, the light in the dash would stay on. I think you may have another problem. I believe you need to try a learning procedure for the system.
Read through this thread and see if it helps. It says it works on the F-150s.

If that doesn't work, I would take it to the dealer for them to calibrate the sensors.

Doesn't the TPMS have to see 25% below target pressure in order to trigger?

So if you have it set to 40, the tires have to get below 30, right?

daytona1783, thanks for the link. I'll check it out and see about the learning procedure. I guess I just figured they were still attached to the system since I wasn't getting a fault... That's what I get for thinking! Haha
Feathermerchant, that's really interesting. I'm wondering if I set them to 55psi if they'll go off then? At least that way I'll know the system is working... It makes sense to have a buffer zone, I guess, to account for temperature changes and whatnot. Thanks for the link!
