Default Tranny Concerns

I was planning on switching from GMC to a 2010 F150 Platinum this year, however all these posts I keep reading about the hard & abrupt shifts really has me concerned to the point of re-considering a Ford, if anyone has any information that the problem has been corrected for 2010, i'd like to hear from you.
Thanks Don

Don,

I beleive there is a TSB for the 1-2 shift, but I will not even bother having it done to my truck. I did notice it every now and then (not often) when the truck was new, but I guess the computer adjusts and it no longer occurs. Do yourself a favor and get the Platinum; It is truly a wonderful truck. After 6 months with my Lariat, I still love it as much as the day I brought it home. Ford did something special with the new F-150's.

I have a 09 Platinum. Took it in for the tailgate overlay coming loose. They reflashed the computer for the transmission hardshift (1-2), problem solved. I went from a H2 to the platinum and am very happy with the truck.

I'm going to assume that the Platinum only comes with the 5.4L engine, which has a fix for it if you take it in to the dealer. In about an hour they'll have it working as expected.

However, if the truck you're interested has the smaller engine then you'll still be waiting for a fix. I have the smaller engine (4.6L) and the shifts bother me A LOT. My dealer said (two wks ago) that they were aware of the problem but didn't have a solution yet (and offered for me to simply check back in a month or so).

It is my [opinion], that this transmission issue is a little overblown by some.

I, too, have had the issue, only in the morning when engine/trans are still cold and only for about (literally) one minute of driving time. Once the engine/trans warms only a little, the issue disappears completely for me. Some here have reported that they have taken their trucks into Ford and with the TSB, they have re-flashed the trans computer and this has solved the matter.

For me, it is such a minor/fleeting issue, I am not even going to take the time to have the computer flashed, as the trans performs so damn well, and delivers not only great towing performance, but also helps provide great gas economy on the highway, with that 6th gear.

While this trans has already been operational for some time now, in the previous years Expedition, I think time will show this to be a strong, dependable transmission. I don't care if it is a Platinum, an XLT, or an FX4, these are all really great trucks.

And don't forget, Ford has had the money to spend on new engineering, while GM and Dodge have been just trying to stay somewhat alive!!
