Suggestions for winterizing the undercarriage in a corrosive environment
Hey guys, looking for suggestions and real world anecdotes for undercoating the frame and undercarriage for winter, as the mag chloride and salt they use on the road here can get brutal. Ive seen reccomendations from rubberized 4m, to rustoleum, to POR and zero rust, the krown treatment, to just hosing off the components regularly during the winter. Right now I'm thinking of scrubbing off the frame, axles and diffs, bottom of cab, and rocker panels with a heavy duty degreaser and then spraying everything with Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protector, which supposedly leaves a rust inhibiting waxy residue that is somewhat self healing and easy to touch up. Any problems with this plan? Any generally superior options? Id sure appreciate the help

There's rustproofing available. I personally just wire brush and rattle can in the spring and fall and do an underbody wash every so often in the winter. Might move to POR15 this year.

It Stinks in Here...
I went with TST and had both of these products put on:

Both the Silent Rider and Rust Remedy carry a lifetime warranty and if I ever see any issue with either one, I can take it to any where that applies it and they will fix the issue at no cost. They will also do touch up at no cost if I want it done. It did cost me $400 and the truck was down for a day, but after weighing other options, it was worth it for me.
Ziebart has similar products, but I went with TST because I have had other vehicles coated with it and liked it.
I do still wash the body and undercarriage every chance I get in the winter (one of the perks of work in our heated shop)

I use a product called cosmoline. It's a relic from WWII but works well. I buy spray cans by the case for about $80. I use their weathershed version. A couple of cans per year is enough. http://www.schafco.com/cosmoline.asp
That plus frequent undercarriage washing seems to work pretty well.
