Strange smell

There is probably more then one issue going on but yeah you would think if you were loosing refrigerant that your A/C would eventually stop blowing cold air but that wasn't the case for me my A/C never degraded. Others of reported a film on their windows from the vents I never had that just the stench.
Here's a copy of my repair order my service advisor was pretty tight lipped about it but a Ford tech I spoke to about this said this mold issue is pretty common.
I'll assume of course, that it is totally out of my reach.

My service writer was actually pretty tight lipped on what the problem was. All I can say for certain is that the evaporator had to replaced and it comes as entire "assembly" that is only accessible by removing the dash. Ford will attempt a deodorize and some sort of "coating" for the evaporator but from what I read that is just a short band-aid fix for most.
Here word for word what a Ford tech's response was to the issue. Now this is not the guy that actually worked on my truck:
If you like maybe he can tell you if there is anything you can do at this point on your own to correct the issue. Send me a PM and I'll send you his user name and you can PM him if you like. He's yet to speak in any of these smell threads but he does interact in many of the other service related issues here and has an extensive YouTube videos doing repairs on Ford's so I do take his feedback as pretty accurate.

"The problem is mold on the evaporator face that grows over time. The thing is a couple years ago the government cracked down on certain chemicals everything we use now is water based and doesn't work so well. The same thing with chrome plating they are all peeling off where as years ago they never had that problem. The other thing that is affected with this poor quality water based chemicals is the anti microbial coating they use on the evap it just doesn't do its job anymore. I have noticed it on the Fusions big time and recently had to change one out what a PITA. Since then ther has been a revised evap to prevent this on the Fusions and Ford Edge but nothing coming down as far as a revised one for the F150. When you get your new one turn off the a/c a block or two from your destination and run just outside air full blast no recirc that will dry out the evap so it is not soaked and sitting in a dark warm place mold like to grow. I have done that for year on all my fords never a problem. Now if you are just running into the store quick obviously you don't need to do that but lets say parking it at work or home overnight."

It's been awhile since my last post, but finally got my truck in the shop. Here is a description of service..I just picked it up today, so till I put it through it's paces, I won't have a report.

Dropping mine off in morning, service manager said they need to pull dash apart but didn't say if they are replacing anything. I'll get more info afterwards.
Does it depend on the dealer if you guys are getting loaner cars or not? mine just shuttles us home.

Strange, but the smell has disappeared from my truck. About the same time that I finally started seeing water dripping from the evap again. It's in the shop now for a few other issues, but I asked them to check it again while it's there...doubt anything will be found since the smell seems to be gone. I am getting a greasy film on the windows tho...not sure if it's related, but it's a pain in the rear end to get off, and reappears every couple weeks or so.

Ford Customer Service
I’ve reviewed your case and saw that it has been resolved, Commeeche. However, I’ve sent a courtesy call request to your customer service manager on your behalf. Please let me know if you need anything.

Guys make sure the exit valve of your evaporator is unplugged, if ifs full of gunk your evaporator will fill with water and that's where the mild growth is coming from, I just got my F150 a few weeks ago so I'm unsure where it is located but I will try to find out
