Default Grille Surround Piece - Chrome to Body Color

Need help!

I want the chrome "grill surround" part on my 2011 XLT to match the body color of my truck. I have seen a few trucks that have a chrome 6-bar inner grille part with a body color grill surround part and I think it looks great.

I was told by a body shop that painting my chrome grill surround part was a bad idea because they would not be able to guarantee the paint would stay on the part years from now. Anyone know if that is true?

So I am wanting to purchase the part either unpainted and ready to be painted or painted my truck's body color (black). Does Ford sell this part painted already?

I have been unable to locate the Ford part number for this part. Does Ford sell the grill itself and the grill surround piece separately? If so, can someone please help me find the correct part number?

Like I said, I tried locating this part for myself but was unable to. I would really appreciate any help! Thanks.

i have always been against painting chrome for that very reason, but, I have not painted much in quite some time and there may be some new techniques on the market that someone may chime in on. I for one would like to do this with all of the Chrome parts on my xlt... strickly because i hate chrome!

I love the chrome door handles and grille, but the grille surround piece is just overkill IMO

I paint chrome regularly at my shop.

We don't guarantee it like a normal paint job. But we do it.

I did a write up

paint it. I painted my chrome bumpers on my 05 xlt and they held up for about 3 years until the day I sold it.. theres great new products to make painting on chrome happen, I have never had anything I painted peel on me

Thanks for the info! Guess I'll have to get the chrome off of the part first, then get it painted like any other part.

Can I just cut a piece of the chrome off and then peel and pull the rest off from that spot? Or is it easier to use oven/brake cleaner?

Also, if anyone can find the Ford part number for the surround piece, I would still like to price it and consider just buying a new one without the chrome and paint it, or one that is already painted black.

I wouldn't. I'd just paint the chrome. In the how to, i just painted the chrome. All those other methods are from other people. Fyi, brake cleaner/fluid + auto paint do not mix.

And the surround can't be bought as a separate piece. Is all one assembly. The chrome grills are all one piece. The painted with black inserts are 2 piece, but are only sold as an assembly.
