OP: does yours smell like ether or "chemically " for lack of a better word? The smell I have is not mildew in the A/C.

My 11 did it, and gradually decreased, don't smell it at all anymore.

I rest my case because mine went away over time as well - new " car smell" in the vents eventually dried up (as I mentioned above last August I had this issue too)

Default Still Smells

Local dealership replaced the following 1 week ago:
A/C box, Evaporator core and heater core. This truck still has the smell and now happens more than before. FORD needs to figure out this problem.

Unhappy Odor out of 2013 F150 vents

I've also been having a strange odor coming out of my dash vents, started about a month or two ago. Took to dealer and he said he's had three (3) other of the same complaints. All F150s and all with 5.0s. At first thought it was a plastic bag caught on an exhaust pipe or similar. Then another thing. One of the other folks having the problem compared it to a very strong smell similar to that of a newly opened bandade, but way stronger. It mainly happens after the truck sets over night or for a few hours, but it is there every day. tried masking the odor but that doesn't work. Spoke to dealer again and they said that they are still waiting for a reply from Ford who has yet to identify the problem and a fix. So you have a nearly $50K pick up truck and they can't figure out where an odor come from in a fairly closed system. This is my 6th F150 (my 5th new) and between the odor which can't be figured out and the rattles in the door and dash, I'm not a happy camper.

I'd like to jump in here and do what I can to help, mbednar. To get the ball rolling, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership; I'll research ways to assist.

What I think might be happening is what happens to my 2014 Mustang. I get the smell when I floor it on the highway and pick up the speed to about 90-100 MPH. I had searched it a while back and they mentioned that it is the catalytic converters in the exhaust. It happens when (correct me if I'm wrong) the fumes or whatever are too much too handle? Or the cats are breaking in? Or a seal that's burning in the cats? It's happened many times with mine and happened yesterday also even tho it already had 15k miles. Just my opinion.

I also have a weird smell coming from my vents. It is very hard to describe, definitely not moldy but more chemically smelling. My truck is less than a year old and I have noticed it for about the last 6 months. I will be bringing it into the dealer in the next week or so to have them check it.

I’ll be happy to assist, Kibosh. What is odometer reading of your vehicle? Please send it over; I’ll see what I can do.

Test drove 3 (2-2013 & 1- 2014) F150 in Feb. they all the same smell as my 2011. Ford specialist (expert) from the Covington, LA area came and test drove my truck. He smelled the samething and told me this was normal. Normal my *****!!! Ford has a problem with this and dies not know what to do.
But, my AC now smells great with NO smell - what did I do??? Went and bought a 2014 GMC Sierra!!!!!
